Senior Engineer - IP L2

Principal Functions

• Handling L2 faults, problem management, RCA, Perform E2E incident Management, Preventive and proactive maintenance, Attend call out for complicated faults. Change management planning and implementation, Report generation for IP MPLS & OBN networks.
• Service provisioning, network upgrades, design validation and acceptance.
• Demonstrate L2/L3 expertise in handling faults in IP MPLS & OBN networks.
• Ensures network and its elements perform with consistency, reliability and efficiency in compliance with the engineering standards, objectives, priorities, guidelines and procedures. 
• Provides professional guidance and support to peers in carrying out the assigned functions.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Operations
  • Perform and coordinate the assigned day-to-day roles/responsibilities in compliance to standards and practices relating to IP , & OBN network operations and maintenance.
  • Monitor the operational events and reviews statistics on availability, health, resources and performance of the IP & OBN  networks under NOC.
  • Fault resolution of IP MPLS & OBN networks/ concerns and resolves major & critical faults under minimal guidance, as required. 
  • Liaise on day-to-day basis with peer teams, service desks, customer care cases, etc. to complete routine operations and tasks – e.g. provisioning, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Track the status of implementation of work plan/assignments on a day-to-day basis.
  • Process and assist in the resolution of complex issues, persistent/unresolved complaints with minimal service disruption/degradation.
  • Coordinates as required with other Engineering sections, contractors and consultants and follows up as required.
  • Prepare and submit monthly Operational reports; generates special reports/statistics as required for Management briefing and follow-up.
  • Reviews and advises on the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, standards and operating practices in respect of network/service quality.
  • Oversee and conduct proper project documentation and maintenance of logs, progress reports etc. of job related activities as applicable.
• Maintenance
  • Organize, support and participate in the installation and configuration of the IP & DWDM Network Systems in accordance with the standards and procedures as well the provisions of the Manufacturer’s Manuals. 
  • Coordinate and implement the configuration and upgrade of Network to match the new releases from Manufacturers/Suppliers.
  • Implement the prescribed performance monitoring and tuning procedures for the assigned Network Systems.
  • Oversee, guide and participate as required in the trouble shooting routines. 
  • Coordinate and carry out 2nd level problem resolution, on-call assignments, and emergency response system in respect of the assigned Network Systems
  • Implement the installation of software patches and bug fixes in accordance with the procedures and guidelines. 
  • Support Planning and Development to deploy new infrastructure and to install/upgrade the assigned Network Systems Software in coordination with Design, Planning teams as well as Manufacturers/Suppliers as required.
  • Carryout comprehensive operations support such as Design, Coordinate & Deploy new rules, procedures & processors to manage traffic, fault monitoring etc., 

• General Duties 
  • Ensure coordination of task within the section are promptly, systematically and efficiently carried out according to the prescribed technical standards and procedures.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor and highlight variance in standard practice
  • Collect data to compile and analyses reports and statistics as required.
  • Analyze the operating practices and processes to identify and develop methods to enhance operational efficiency, consistency and reliability acceptable to requirements and infrastructure/ technology parameters.
  • Handle resources utilization and ensures efficient and productive deployment of both internal and outsourced resources.
  • Provides professional guidance and support to subordinates in carrying out the assigned functions
  • Participate and assist superiors in the preparation of project plans/budgets. 
  • Monitors the performance of suppliers, contractors, vendors & consultants and follows up as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality and propriety of the assignments in order to safeguard their strategic importance to ETISALAT.
  • Keep abreast of the developments in Internet Network O&M standards, procedures and practices. 
  • Undertake full responsibility for equipment under his/her control
