Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Fertilizer Analysis and Raw Material Inspection: Analyze fertilizers and inspect incoming raw materials for the farm, accepting or rejecting them based on specifications.
  • Farm Risk Assessment Before Acquisition: Conduct risk assessments (physical or biological risks) before taking over farms, including surveying pivot areas to determine stone distribution and impermeable soil levels.
  • Soil and Water Sampling: Collect soil and water samples for chemical, microbial, and fungal analysis to determine their suitability for agriculture.
  • Weed Assessment: Identify the types of weeds present in pivot areas to determine the appropriate herbicides for control.
  • Irrigation Trials: Conduct irrigation experiments to adjust sprinkler nozzles and optimize water distribution in pivot systems.
  • Land Preparation Supervision: Monitor land preparation activities (plowing, subsoiling, marking, rotary tilling) to ensure productivity and quality.
  • Seed Inspection: Inspect seeds upon arrival at the farm and allocate each variety to pivots according to the planting plan.
  • Smart Agro Task Confirmation: Confirm agricultural operation tasks on the Smart Agro tablet system.
  • Planting Depth and Rate Adjustment: Ensure the correct planting depth and seeding rate for each variety and regulate fungicide application rates.
  • Germination Monitoring: Track seed germination and determine decay percentages.
  • Approval of Agricultural Material Requests: Approve or reject agricultural material requests based on the plan and create consumption tasks in SAP.
  • Sprayer Calibration: Calibrate sprayers, adjust nozzles, and regulate pesticide application rates.
  • Pesticide Effectiveness Assessment: Evaluate the impact of pesticides on diseases to determine whether reapplication is necessary.
  • Fertilization Monitoring: Oversee fertilization by assessing the type of fertilizer, applied quantities, and mixing procedures.
  • Nutrient Deficiency Assessment: Identify nutrient deficiency symptoms in plants and determine the required fertilizers or nutrients.
  • Disease Evaluation: Assess all plant diseases (fungal, bacterial, insect-related) in pivots and select the appropriate pesticide.
  • Virus Assessment in Crops: Evaluate crop viruses before and after roguing to determine seed generation and accept or reject the crop as seed material (Seed Farm).
  • Harvest Trials: Conduct harvest trials, assess disease levels, and determine whether the crop is suitable for processing or storage.
  • Residue Sampling: Collect YSI samples and pesticide residue samples for analysis.
  • Harvest Loss Evaluation: Assess harvest losses and inspect potatoes during harvest to determine defects and direct them to the appropriate transportation.
  • Data Recording: Record all operations and inspections in VISTEX.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, or Science.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in SAP, VISTEX, and MS Office.
    • Knowledge of fungal, insect-related, bacterial, and viral diseases.
    • Understanding of plant nutrition principles and how to diagnose nutrient deficiencies or excesses.
    • Ability to identify weed types and their corresponding herbicides.
    • Expertise in pesticide types and mixing principles.
    • Familiarity with soil types and their suitability for cultivation in different sectors.
    • Knowledge of agricultural equipment and rate calibration to ensure quality.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in potato cultivation.
