Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

To be a trusted adviser and partner to the business by providing (i) legal advice and risk management guidance to the DCM business, and (ii) hands on proactive transaction management services.

The role requires a can-do attitude and hands on approach, assisting from pitch and structuring stage, meeting with clients and the appointment and management of outside counsel as well as proactively ensuring the smooth running of each transaction through to the closing.

The candidate must have very strong Islamic Finance and debt capital markets experience as well as liability management experience.
The role requires an ability to identify and to proactively manage and resolve areas of legal and reputational risk to the Group which may arise in the course of a transaction or for the business more generally.
Obtain quotations from panel law firms and other third parties on transactions and ensure approvals to appoint are in place
Pro-actively co-ordinate and communicate regularly with DCM Legal and MENAT Legal to manage legal risk and to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected
Assist the business to remain compliant with legal and regulatory risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual, the Operational Risk Framework and Legal FIM.
Based in Dubai, this role requires an individual to be part of the MENAT Legal team as well as working seamlessly with the DCM Legal team based in London and Paris, working closely alongside the other lawyers supporting DCM matters.
Provide commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice to MENAT DCM and to HBEU/HBCE DCM with regard to legal risks arising in your area of expertise
Ensure that the impact of regulatory and legislative developments are understood by the business and adequately reflected in documentation.
Proactively manage and lead transactions giving seamless support to DCM, enabling smooth execution and timely responses, coordinating the varied stakeholders and positively demonstrating HSBC capabilities
Provide prompt, commercial, practical and high quality legal advice on transactions and advise the business of and escalate within Legal (MENAT Legal and DCM Legal London) promptly material legal developments and their implications
Support DCM with pitches, attending where requested
Ensure that DCM Legal head, Regional Legal head and DCM MENAT head are fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area
In conjunction with DCM Legal and MENAT Legal, build and maintain positive and effective relationships with panel law firms and other appropriate external parties
Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with all team members within DCM, DCM Legal, MENAT Legal and Legal globally
Participate effectively as part of the MENAT Legal team and the DCM Legal team.
Establish and develop a strategy for the co-ordination and promotion of initiatives that result in the sharing of legal knowledge and best practices across DCM Legal and the Regional / Global Legal Function
Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.
Requirements
Experience & Qualifications
Qualified lawyer with at least 6 years relevant post qualification experience in debt capital markets and Islamic finance, with a focus on European and MENAT transactions and other emerging markets.
Experienced and confident lawyer able to identify and manage legal and reputation risk.

The practitioner should expect to manage a large volume of transactions and may be dealing with a wide range of issues, from complex legal matters to administrative
English law qualified
Civil law jurisdiction qualification/knowledge/experience a plus
Up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory developments in own industry sector and familiarity with ICMA guidelines, AAOIFI standards and other industry body terms and documents
Able to work in a team but also able to manage own workload independently
MENAT regional experience needed, you must be a native English speaker.

Arabic language a plus but not necessary
Stamina and ability to work under pressure
Graduation degree is REQUIRED– to secure a UAE Visa and Work Permit
