JOB TITLE: Education Officer LOCATION: Greater Cairo area, Egypt

CONTRACT DURATION:


Until December 2024 with a possibility to extend to December 2025 based on performance.



Child Safeguarding:


Level 3: The role holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.



ROLE PURPOSE:


The post holder will be responsible for implementing the project education interventions and will be responsible for the technical, financial and administrative management of education activities implemented by Save the children (SC). The education officer will be responsible for ensuring that the project interventions contribute successfully towards the implementation of the annual plans. S/he will be responsible for building CLC capacity to manage the delivery of Accelerated Education Program, literacy Catch-up clubs and Language classes for unaccompanied and separated children and youth. S/he will coordinate with CRS to ensure UAC have access to education grants and learning opportunities especially for children with disabilities.


Projects Scope:


This project is funded by multiple donors seeking to assist vulnerable unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) and youth among asylum seekers, migrants and members from the host community aged 14-35 in Greater Cairo to receive better protection services aiming to empower them for successful transition to self-reliance, access income generation activities and integrate within the local communities.



SCOPE OF ROLE:


Reports to: Project Manager


Staff directly reporting to this post: Education Coordinator.


Dotted Line: Education TA


Coordination: This position requires representation for SCI during the working groups and partners meetings



KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


Project Planning & Implementation:


- Develop and lead the support and capacity building plan support plan for community learning centers to delivery Accelerated Education Program (AEP), Literacy Catch-up-Clubs and Language classes.


- Orient partner community learning centers (CLCs) on available SC Education programs.


- Coordinate with protection and MHPSS and officers to develop and implement a multi-sectoral annual and long-term plan for building capacity of partner CLCs to adopt an integrated approach in supporting separated and unaccompanied children.


- Support partner CLCs develop a sustainability plan for continuous delivery of Education programs.


- Engage partner CLCs in assessing the educational needs of unaccompanied and separated children.


- Classify and assign education programs for unaccompanied and separated children according to their needs.


- Train CLC teachers on Special Needs Action Pack (SNAP)


- Coordinate with UNHCR to include unaccompanied and separated children in getting education grants and other services.


- Establish and maintain work mechanisms between partner CLC to request and provide support for maintaining quality education at CLCs.


- Document education interventions/activities and SCI lessons learnt and experience resulting from the project. Contribute to the writing of regular and ad hoc reports as relates to the education sector.


- Coordinate with MEAL person to support in project assessment activities.


- Compile concise quantitative and qualitative reports on a monthly, and quarterly basis.


- Ensure that ongoing programme monitoring/learning feeds into alterations into programme design.


Coordination and collaboration:


- Collaborate actively with the Education TA and solicit advice and feedback as related to education interventions.


- Maintain close communication with other project officers to ensure effective coordination across the different refugees and migrants projects.


- Support the project manager in coordinating the establishment of good relationships with donors, partners, government authorities, private sector and other actors to ensure continued support for SC programmes and enlist their support and assistance in working towards achieving sustainable and replicable programme models.


- Network with other partners to support the project beneficiaries to implement their initiatives.


In case of Emergency:


- Promote children's rights, contributing to their well-being and protection in times of emergencies, guided by humanitarian principles and code of conduct.


- During emergencies, he/she should act in a way that facilitates SCI’s response to emergencies, giving priority to all assigned.


- Be prepared to support SCI interventions in response to emergencies and show needed flexibility


General:


- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with colleagues, beneficiaries and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE


- Bachelor’s degree in the development field or any other related field is required.


- From 3 to 5 years’ experience in education.


- Familiarity with the refugees and migrant’s context in Egypt, is a must;


- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation and coaching.


- Experience working with CLCs.


- Excellent analytical and creative abilities with strong results orientation.


- Fluency in English & Arabic, both verbal and written, is required.


- Commitment to Save the Children values.
