Job Description

Advanced smelting Industries Co. (ASIC), which is equally owned by Tasnee.


The smelter is situated in the Jizan Economic City and is designed to smelt ilmenite (Titanium rich mineral sand) to produce Titania Dioxide slag and pig iron. The plant consists of two Electric Arc furnaces, each with a capacity of 250kt slag and 125kt pig iron. The slag that is produced is tapped from the furnace and processed to be used as feed stock for the titanium chlorination and sulphuric acid processes to finally produce Titanium pigment which is mainly used in paints and plastics.


An exciting opportunity is available for Engineer II, Inspection Based in Jizan and will report directly toPlanning & Reliability Superintendent


About the role:


To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of physical assets by conducting comprehensive assessments, inspections and analyses of structural integrity and static equipment. Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements governing asset integrity and safety.


Maintain accurate records of inspection findings, maintenance activities and equipment condition assessments. Minimize downtime, reduce operational risks, and maximize asset value by safeguarding the integrity, reliability, and performance of physical assets.


You will be responsible to:


Structural Integrity Assessment:


  • Conduct structural integrity assessments of on-site facilities, including buildings, support structures, foundations, and civil infrastructure.
  • Perform visual inspections, structural analysis, and evaluations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential structural deficiencies, defects, or vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate remedial actions or repairs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to develop and implement structural maintenance and repair programs.

Static Equipment Inspections:


  • Perform inspections of static equipment, including pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, boilers, and piping systems.
  • Utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques such as ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing to assess equipment integrity.
  • Review inspection reports, maintenance records, and equipment history to identify corrosion, defects, or deterioration and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards, such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, API standards, and ASTM materials specifications.

Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) and Fitness-for-Service (FFS) Assessments:


  • Conduct risk-based inspection (RBI) assessments to prioritize inspection activities and optimize maintenance strategies based on asset criticality and risk levels.
  • Perform fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments to evaluate the structural and mechanical integrity of equipment components and determine their fitness for continued service.
  • Utilize engineering calculations, stress analyses, and corrosion rate predictions to assess equipment fitness and remaining service life.

Documentation and Reporting:


  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, documentation, and records, including inspection findings, recommendations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspection activities, equipment condition assessments, and maintenance history.
  • Communicate inspection results and recommendations to relevant stakeholders, including management, engineering teams, and regulatory authorities.

Continuous Improvement and Compliance:


  • Stay informed about industry developments, regulatory changes, and best practices related to asset integrity management.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, reviews, and assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency enhancements in asset integrity management practices.

Minimum Qualification:


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or related field.

Minimum Experience:


  • 8 Years of experience or more in Static Equipment Inspections in Smelting Industry or Equivalent Metallurgical/Mineral Processing.
  • Professional engineering license (PE) or equivalent certification preferred.

Required Skills:


  • Knowledge and experience in NDT (PT, UT, RT, MT) techniques for stationary equipment.
  • Good knowledge of TML for pipes and tanks inspection.
  • Experience in inspection of tanks, pipes, structures following the international standards and codes.
  • Experience in fitness for service evaluations and remaining asset life calculations.
  • Have the skill to troubleshoot and investigate equipment failures due to different types of corrosion and erosion.
  • Have experience and knowledge in specifying the right material of construction following compatibility charts.
  • Able to create site inspection procedures and follow-up on their implementation.
  • Work on creating repair sheets and quality control system for fabrication and welding and creation of repair sheets.
  • Knowledge in lifting, rigging and sling wires inspection.
  • Preferably Hold certificates in Welding Inspection like CWI.
  • Preferably Hold certifications in ASME and API 570 ,510, 650 ,653 ,510.
  • Preferably have experience in smelter plants and refractory inspections.
