The Primary department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students.We are now looking for an innovative PYP - Teaching Assistant to join this successful team, available for an immediate start.THE ROLEThe role of the PYP - Teaching Assistant is to provide academic, social and emotional support for the students in their designated class. Guidance & instruction as to the kind of support offered will be given by the classroom teacher. The direct supervisor of the Teaching Assistant is the classroom teacher. Teaching Assistants are considered part of a team working alongside teachers in the classroom. The classroom teacher is responsible for collaborating with the Teaching Assistant to develop work schedules, expectations for working with students and procedures for classroom management.Key Accountabilities:Models and encourages a culture of kindness in support of the GEMS/GWA core valuesAssists students individually, in small groups or as a whole class with academic support, creative activities, develops fine/gross motor coordination, observes and reports student progress to the teacher, supports specialist teachers when necessary, assist with classroom managementLiaises with teachers to address student social and emotional needs, including those related to snack and lunch, health, clothing and general well beingSubstitutes for teacher in his/her absence (temporary duty only)Supervises students during scheduled recess dutiesWorks with teachers to create a positive school environment the emphasizes safety, a child-centered atmosphere, sense of order and attractive displays of student workAccompanies students on field trips and excursionAssumes supervision and instructional tasks as assigned by the supervisory teacherAttends workshop and professional development as requested by the division level PrincipalReports absence from duty to the school Secretary and Teacher the evening before absenceMaintains utmost confidentialityExpected Qualifications and Experience:Bachelor’s degree or minimum High School EducationAt least 3 years experience in a classroom settingFluent in EnglishAbility to multitaskSkills English Speaker with exceptional skills, both verbal and writtenAbility to multi-task and cope with peaks of demandStrong interpersonal skillsExcellent organisational skillsGEMS Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of its students and staff.
