Job Description
Primary Role Focus
The Machine Shop Lead is responsible for operation and management of the production department to
produce machined components within the specified delivery date and to high quality standards. This role
reports to the Manufacturing Manager.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
• Setup, program, and machine parts as per setup instructions and part drawings
• Perform manual component modifications and repair as required
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of all parts
• Plan machine time, shop space, material, and commodity usage
• Assist with raw material planning and management
• Assist with scheduling and production planning for machine work
• Create job routers for product traveling through production
• Assist coordinating third party services and logistics
• Monitor tooling in shop and ensure stock levels are adequate.
• Perform 100% QA checks, including dimensional inspection of parts and recording any deviations
• Communicate machining best practices to designers
• Ensure calibration is maintained on all precision measuring equipment
• Plan and assist with any repairs and maintenance including regular PM’s of equipment
• Maintain cleanliness of workspace and shop
Position Requirements
Experience and Skills
• Minimum 5 years machine shop experience required
• Previous leadership experience required
• Fanuc programming experience required
• Manual lathe and milling experience required
• Good understanding of tooling, insert grades and geometry required
• Oil & Gas machining experience required (background in threads or downhole tools an asset)
• Proficiency with reading and understanding machining blueprints
• Experience with QA principles (measurements) and all forms of measure equipment
• Knowledge of machining practices and procedures
• Beginner to Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience with live tooling (lathe) asset
• Experience running a variety of other CNC / manual machines an asset
• Experience with API-Q1 / ISO 9001:2015 standards an asset
Education and Training
• Machinist accreditation preferred
• First aid certification
Physical, Business and Safety Requirements
• Compliance with Packers Plus Health and Safety Program
• Able to lift 50lbs
• Shift work, including weekends and on call
• Safety Sensitive
o Subject to pre-employment medical assessment
