Background

The Om Habibeh Foundation (OHF), an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network, is currently operating in Aswan a seven-year skills development initiative entitled: “the Aswan Skills Development Programme (ASDP)”, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) and the Aga Khan Foundation, Egypt, and funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). 

ASDP focuses on improving the livelihoods of 6,000 young women and men in Aswan City and Kom Ombo District through strengthening the quality and range of vocational and technical training programmes, as well as professional development programmes to young women and men in Aswan Governorate. To achieve this goal, ASDP focuses on achieving the following: 

  • Improved prospects for employment and employability for young women and men in Aswan and Kom Ombo.
  • Improved job creation opportunities (self-employment, entrepreneurship) for young women and men in Aswan and Kom Ombo.
  • Strengthened local gender and environmentally sensitive labour market system to support young women and men in Aswan and Kom Ombo in entrepreneurship and employability.

Position Objectives: 

The Entrepreneurship Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of all entrepreneurship programme components in line with the project implementation plan. The incumbent will be reporting to the Senior Programme Manager and working in close collaboration with other programme managers and experts/consultants to enhance access to sustainable enterprise, self-employment and social entrepreneurship opportunities among young men and women in Aswan governorate. 

Main Responsibilities: 

  1. Overall management responsibility for the entrepreneurship component of the project; developing, delivering, and managing an integrated entrepreneurship programme.
  2. Promotion and advocacy of entrepreneurship amongst youth of Aswan.
  3. Manage a team of subordiantes, mentors, and consultants.
  4. Working with community-based and private organisations and individuals to start-up, develop, maintain, and grow profitable/sustainable businesses.
  5. Working collaboratively with other project teams to deliver programme components effectively and efficiently.
  6. Providing support to Aswan ecosystem and working closely with entrepreneurship component stakeholders and partners.

Accordingly, the Entrepreneurship Manager will be expected to:

 

  • Implement a strategy to promote entrepreneurship amongst the youth of Aswan, in close coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement and deliver an integrated entrepreneurship programme based on best practice and existing tools.
  • Identify the economic /income-generating activities that could be promoted especially in the agriculture value-chain.
  • Manage and develop the fourth business plan competition.
  • Provide technical assistance to the OHF accelerator and incubator, and work closely with relevant mentors.
  • Provide technical, financial, and non-financial assistance to potential entrepreneurship.
  • Deliver and/or assist to deliver coaching and mentorship for entrepreneurs.
  • Manage and monitor the ‘competitive grants’ process and implementation.
  • Develop and manage relationships with funding organizations and manage the process of establishing linkages for entrepreneurs.
  • Engage and work collaboratively with national government and non-governmental organizations working in the field of enterprise business development.
  • Facilitate in forging business partnerships between start-up enterprises, local financial institutions, and private entrepreneurs - a key feature of these partnerships should be that all involved partners are able to gain something out of the business ventures around which the partnership is developed.
  • Prepare quarterly progress reports, semi-annual report, and annual reports in the area under his/her responsibility, and manage the budget elements respectively in compliance with donor guidelines.
  • Manage the developed systematic database on the entrepreneurial activities as they relate to the overall scope of the project.
  • Develop and manage the entrepreneurship officers.
  • Contribute to the project research and learning agenda, and manage the entrepreneurship-related studies.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree, ideally a master’s degree, preferably in business administration with at least 5 years of practical experience in business incubators, or enterprise development.
  • A minimum of 3 years in management experience and managing teams.
  • Ability to work flexibly with colleagues and in a collaborative manner.
  • Experience and/or solid understanding of business development.
  • Excellent written and verbal English and Arabic language skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage quality, people, and resources.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to build trust, motivate, and work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated capacity to multi-task, work independently and take initiatives.
  • Energy and willingness to work in the field in diverse locations and diverse lines of business.
