Job Description

The Career Coach will lead a Career Portfolio Workshop that includes discussion sessions and company visits for scholarship students, and pulls together all of the content that the students have learned over the course of their scholarship into a Career Portfolio, which the Career Coach will review and provide feedback and guidance on. The Workshop includes the following components, with the following duties and responsibilities for the Coach.

Introduction Session

Session with the students; discussing the purpose of the Career Portfolio Workshop:

  • Get to know the students. Learn what they know and what they are missing, in regard to career preparation
  • Introduce the content of the career portfolio coaching program, discussion sessions, and company visits
  • Discuss each component of the portfolio and why it is important

Career Portfolio 

Each student should have an online career portfolio on google classroom and to be updated with their progress and activities. (Student Portfolio content will come from a variety of sources.)

  • Enter student assignments in the Career Portfolio and make sure students’ required portfolio content is uploaded and updated (e.g. CV and Cover letter, LinkedIn profile, mentorship reports, internship timesheet, leadership reflection, networking list, etc.)
  • Follow up with students missing content, or to provide important feedback

Discussion Sessions

  • For each workshop group, conduct four one-hour discussion sessions per year on a variety of topics related to career preparation (e.g. networking, goal setting, Linked In profiles, etc.)
  • Review and provide feedback to the student on assignment for each workshop.

Company Visit  

  • Arrange in-person or virtual company visits to ensure that each student has at least three company visits, representing different aspects of the field the students will be working in (e.g. combination of large and small companies OR site job and office job OR accounting in a company and finance in the bank)
  • Arrange the appointment matching students with companies’ availabilities. Company contacts will be provided by AMIDEAST, though the coach is welcome to suggest additional companies/contacts as well.
  • Conduct orientation sessions about company visits before the visit, including information about companies that are planned to be visited, purpose, and how to benefit from it.
  • Escort students in the company visits and conduct discussion afterwards to encourage students to consider what they learned in relation to their own life and plans.
  • Assign and review company visit reflection forms / reflective essay after the visit

Overall

  • Report planned schedule and actual activities to AMIDEAST each month.
  • Grade students’ assignments and communicate students’ overall performance to AMIDEAST each semester
  • Contribute content to AMIDEAST’s student survey creation and review student responses from surveys to better understand student needs and questions.

Career Coaching Sessions

  • Review students CV, cover letter, and other documents in order to provide guidance on the student’s career path – what jobs their training prepares them for; what jobs their personality seems well suited for; areas for improvement or growth; advice on where to find jobs; and answering student questions. Discussion can include short term and long-term plans and possibilities.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent coaching skills
  • Proven records of career coaching counseling experience
  • knowledge in the field of employability, career preparation and entrepreneurship, preferably         someone who has experience working in the private sector
