Job Description
The successful applicant will work in the educational Biology Laboratories of the Biomedical Sciences
Program. He/ She will work with the laboratory manager and a disciplinary team of dedicated faculty members. the successful applicant will have the following responsibilities:
- Developing lab equipment’s database (supplier, initial cost, catalogues, maintenance procedure & cost, calibration, SOP, operation logger, etc.) via in-house or service contracts.
- Organizing the stock room and reporting the state of the laboratory's frequent requirements (chemicals, reagents, consumables, etc.)
- Developing a system for checking on the inventories (glassware, instruments, electrodes, recorders, data loggers, stirrers, etc.).
- Ensuring proper storage and disposal of chemical and/or biological materials in accordance with safety and compliance regulations.
- Ordering supplies and general lab maintenance. Performing financial & asset management of lab equipment.
- Maintaining and upkeep the state of laboratory facilities and equipment and assessing equipment to troubleshoot any problems that may arise.
- Assisting in the different laboratory practical preparations: reagents, chemicals, slides and lab experiments...etc.
- Consult with peers, teaching assistants, and professors to support continuous upgrade of experiments by
- using the latest scientific technologies and techniques.
- Will have to work with different equipment and reagents to assist and support peers and all teaching assistants (TAs) in different lab sections.
Job Requirements
- English and Arabic Proficiency.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences or relative discipline, Master’s degree is preferable.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a relevant laboratory facility with previous proven experience
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, with high-level skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.
- Able to work under pressure with a minimum level of supervision.
- Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to handle animals and operate different laboratory equipment (Microscopes, ELIZA plate reader, Thermal Cycler, Gel Electrophoresis, Centrifuges, ...etc.).
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and precautions
- ability to supervise a team of lab specialists, and liaison with departments within Zewail City and with outside vendors.
