Job Description

  • MEDECINS SANS FRONTIERES (MSF) is a non-governmental medical humanitarian aid organization. MSF presently work in more than 60 countries providing assistance to population in distress, victims of natural or man-made disaster and victims of conflicts irrespective of race, religion, creed or political convictions. 
  • To support this work, MSF Egypt Mission is recruiting for its activities in Cairo a candidate for the mentioned position.
  • Purpose of the position:
  • Carry out all social-related activities, in order to ease the patient’s situation, to maximize his/her adherence to treatment and to improve his/her psycho-social condition.

Accountabilities:

  • Identify social needs of patients through a social assessment. Respond to the patient’s social needs, according to the scope of the project, by giving direct social support (as transport, food, legal advice) and/or refer to other social actors, in order to actively contribute to the improvement of their quality of living.
  • Contact patients to follow up the evolution of their condition when needed (home visits, defaulter tracing)
  • Participate in the creation of any material needed for the activities of social workers.
  • Take care of social services facilities, materials and equipment in order to ensure continuity.
  • Mapping and regular update of social partners, local authorities, other NGOs, and governmental social services in order to improve social services scope and responsiveness.
  • Keep records, statistic and files updated, reporting any social activity, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects.

General:

  • Set up social action plans for them and conduct case management;
  • Refer case actively to the competent organization to obtain their needed services;
  • Identify and assess urgent or emergency social cases;
  • Act as focal person with partners who would refer patients to MSF clinic and act as focal person for our patients with the actors who would need to be referred out to obtain social and medical services;
  • Document the patient’s social situations, referrals and action plan evolution of each patient based on their action plans;
  • Keep records, statistic sheets and files updated, reporting social activities, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects
  • Provide sufficient information on MSF scope of work, capabilities of the SWs work within the project and also, update the patients about their referral’s updates;
  • Take an active role in managing, coordinating and arranging any activities that would run under the SW department and/ or others;
  • Ensure proper documentation of all stages as per MSF protocols;
  • Ensure confidentiality of the patients’ cases, and all their related information;
  • Support in other tasks as per assigned.

Communications & Mapping:

  • Support the department in identifying potential actors to have an active cooperation with;
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance to map and update MSF Social Network that include operating international and national organizations and also, community based-organizations, NGOs and others;
  • Support in analyzing the social services span to insure proper responsiveness for our cases.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or other related fields;
  • Desirable degree in social work

Experience

  • Two years’ experience of working in social work and case management, Legal Aid, communications, development, social enterprise or a related field;
  • Experience with MSF or other NGOs, desirable;
  • Previous experience working in multicultural context is desirable;
  • Interest in working with migrants, refugees and populations from different nationalities and cultures

Languages

  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills;
  • Fluency in English and Arabic;
