JOB SUMMARY



The Senior Engineer - Biomedical is responsible for the supervision of assigned BME Technicians and Technologists and functions in a senior technical capacity on a variety of assigned medical equipment (working supervisory position). Supervises, coordinates and influences all functions related to the daily safety testing, repair and maintenance of biomedical patient care equipment. Provides on-site leadership for all components of the medical equipment management plan, and participates in the development of departmental policies, programs and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Maximizes patient safety by supporting proper use, application and operational performance for patient care equipment. Acts as a technical resource to other BME staff for repair and maintenance activities on selected equipment and systems.

KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES



Contributes to the day-to-day management of the Biomedical Engineering operations according to departmental policies and processes. Provides critical problem solving and decision-making including work prioritization of equipment with higher clinical repair needs. Provides autonomous management of time in coordination with the BME Director and in consideration of departmental-wide strategies, policies and systems for workforce planning, occupational health and safety, education and training and performance management. Demonstrates an on-going commitment to service quality improvement and ensures a high-level commitment to professional job performance and customer service throughout Sidra. Promotes and maintains effective communication with all team members of the BME department towards achieving the departmental objectives. Participates in the use of a paperless, CAFM integrated, equipment maintenance program incorporating the transfer of test data from BME specific automated test equipment to generate accurate data and relevant histories in compliance with JCIA standards. Supports implementation and ongoing improvement of BME department service-related programs, including operational standards and relevant key performance indicators. Ensures the availability of relevant electronic data to the BME Director for analysis of maintenance operations and performance as required in support of selected KPI’s. Develops balanced work schedules within the CAFM program for self and subordinate staff, while considering flexible leave schedules. Evaluates assigned staff productivity, efficiency and other specific work quality performance indices. Participates in staff evaluations for assigned staff. Ensures subordinate staff has adequate resources to perform assigned repairs and maintenance. Coordinates with BME Trainer to ensure that all technical staff have been trained or demonstrated competence on assigned equipment. Monitors monthly expenses and works with management in recommendations for controlling operational costs. Coordinates test equipment repairs and scheduled testing for JCI compliance. Functions as a resource person for assigned equipment, which may include providing scheduled or on-the-spot instruction to clinical staff regarding the safe and proper use of medical equipment. Collaborates with other support departments (FM, or IT), to develop support plans for those devices requiring multi-disciplinary support. Adheres to Sidra’s standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.

QUALIFICAITIONS & EXPERIENCE



Education



Bachelor’s degree in electronic/ biomedical engineering
Experience
A minimum of 5+ years progressively more advanced technical experience in the Biomedical Engineering field ranging from hands-on to senior technical roles, followed by a minimum of 3+years supervisory level experience (i.e., a minimum 8+ years total BME experience). Demonstrated experience participating in JCAHO or JCIA accreditation surveys. Full understanding of the IEC 80001-1 standard Combinations of education and experience will be considered.* Multicultural workplace experience
