Job Description

Home Care Aides Tasks:

The tasks of the Home Care Aides include but are not limited to:

  • Receive referrals of vulnerable POCs in need of home nursing care from PSTIC Admin, Health Coordinator, Health Team Leader, Psychosocial Workers, Community and Self-Referrals in a timely way.
  • Assess each case to determine the problems, needed nursing care and available resources.
  • Prepare an immediate Plan of Action for each case in coordination with TL/Coordinator, and assist the cases until plan of action is achieved.
  • Ensure that every patient in need of home nursing care has plan for needed care from the managing doctor (especially post-operative patients) and use that plan in the home health care.
  • Utilize public – university – governmental affordable health services whenever available and safe.
  • Accompany home care patients who need follow up to health services when they are unable to do so on their own.
  • Promote advocacy of patients to Health Coordinator and Team Leader when further medical care and advocacy is needed to UNHCR and partner organizations.
  • Promote health communication and knowledge of diagnosis in patients to work to achieving patient self-reliance.
  • Facilitate community and family support for all people with medical needs as is appropriate.
  • Refer cases with psychosocial, mental health, medical services to PSTIC and other available organizations.
  • When requested - respond immediately to urgent medical cases 24 hours / 7 days a week and assist the patient to access needed services in a timely way. Coordinate emergency response with the medical service providers in coordination with TL/ Coordinator.

Supervision:

  • Available and fully participating in all scheduled individual and group supervision.

Training / Meetings: 

  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled classes and / or meetings. 
  • Arrive on time and stay throughout each class and / or meeting.

Reporting:

  • Maintain all data required by PSTIC for its reporting system including a personal log and Google doc. of all cases, Master List, updates of all new referrals, up-to-date files on each case using the PSTIC forms and complete Monthly, Quarterly, Annual Reports fully and on time.

 

About Terre des Hommes and Psycho-Social Services and Training Institute in Cairo (Overall purpose)

Since 1983 Terre des hommes (TDH) Egypt works in close collaboration with recognized local partners and thanks to the funding of several international donors (among them UNICEF, UNHCR, ECHO, SDC). From northern Delta region to southern Upper Egypt region, from refugee communities to vulnerable host communities, TDH provides support to children, youth, family/caregiver and communities while working on capacities development of key local – formal and informal – actors.

 PSTIC offers a range of training courses and workshops and through its professional supervision oversees mental health and psychosocial support services provided to refugees and asylum seekers. Referrals of people in need come to PSTIC affiliated PSWs from their Communities; UNHCR; NGOs CBOs; or self-referral

Job Requirements

  • • Post-graduate of Nursing School
  • Experience 
  • • Previous experience in the health sector.
    Experience in nursing home health care.
    Previous experience working with refugees
    Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a multicultural team.
  • Languages
     • Good spoken and written Arabic or English.

  • Schedule:
  • Hours: No less than 40 hours per week, according to tasks needing to be completed.
  • Time off: One scheduled day per week; one weekend (two consecutive days) per month.
  • Vacation: Home Health Aide is entitled to 20 days off a year. The first 10 days can be taken after 6 months of work. The second 10 days can be taken between 4-6 months after the first 10 days.
  • Worker must inform the PSTIC HR Officer if he/she leaves the city and its environs.
  • A daily-weekly-monthly planning and time management in accordance to needs of program.
  • A calendar submitted monthly summarizing work completed.
  • Days and weekends off must be scheduled at the end of each month and agreed with Director/ Emergency Coordinator / Team Leader and Team Mates; week off must have one-month notice and be agreed by Director/ Emergency Coordinator. Any days taken beyond this will not be paid.
