Job Description
FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor who is a food safety specialist responsible for overseeing and conducting audits of food safety management systems (FSMS) within organizations. They ensure compliance with the FSSC 22000 standard, which integrates ISO 22000 (general food safety requirements) with additional requirements for specific sectors of the food industry.
Here's a breakdown of the typical responsibilities of an FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor:
Planning and Leading Audits: They plan, conduct, and lead audits of FSMS against FSSC 22000 requirements. This involves tasks like scheduling the audit, assembling an audit team (if applicable), and ensuring adherence to auditing standards like ISO 19011.
Evaluating FSMS: They assess the effectiveness of the implemented FSMS, identifying areas of strength and weakness. This involves reviewing documentation, interviewing personnel, and observing practices.
Reporting and Follow-Up: They prepare comprehensive audit reports that detail findings, non-conformities (if any), and corrective action recommendations. They may also follow up with organizations to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Job Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a food science or related field (sometimes not mandatory)
- Experience in the food industry, particularly in food safety
- In-depth knowledge of FSSC 22000 standards and FSMS principles
- have performed a sufficient audits against food safety standards and schemes (GFSI is preferred)
- Excellent auditing skills and experience (often with a certified FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor qualification)
- strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
