Job Description

Accountabilities:

  • Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in Mental Health MSF programs and activities. 
  • Coordinates activities of counselling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health matters, including referral services. 
  • Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psychosocial needs 
  • Liaise with the other MSF team members of the project. 
  • Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required 
  • Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning. 
  • When needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality. 
  • Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity manager 
  • Offer clinical counselling supervision to mental health counsellors in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager. 
  • Ensure the patient’s related information is kept confidential.

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:

Operational roles

  • Management of the daily functioning of the MH department: allocate emergencies and new assessments to the MH team.
  • Participate to regular project meetings with a clear agenda of topics discussed prior with the team and provide minutes of the meeting to the team.
  • Ensure the EMR system is correctly used and provide or coordinate with other department technical support when necessary. 
  • Ensure all Psychologist and Psyciatrists follow up on their active list of patients appropriately.
  • Take an active role into the briefing/debriefing of new psychologists and psyciatrists joining the project and make sure that the induction plan is properly organised.
  • When needed, provide psychological support to specific patients if there is no responsible psychologist available.
  • Monitor the waiting list, the waiting time before the consultations with the MH team, the scheduling of new assessment, the number of emergencies.
  • Ensure collaboration with other teams and MDT approach
  • Contribute with the other department supervisors to develop and enhance the comprehensive and holistic care approach.
  • Participate actively to the improvement of the existing multidisciplinary team approach in the project and take proper action to maintain this approach.
  • Support training of MH related topics to other departments a/o NGOs if asked

Administrative role

  • Participate to the monthly, quarterly medical reporting providing quantitative data and qualitative narrative.
  • Participate to the revision or creation of the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) for the project, ensure the implementation of the SOP and the follow up of the adequate use.

Other roles

  • Participate and contribute to the development of the medical operational strategy regularly discussed, revised and implemented.
  • Participate to external meeting when requested by the Mental Health Activity Manager.
  • Liaise / collaborate with other organizations on behalf of MSF.

Job Requirements

Education: Diploma in clinical psychology or Master’s degree in psychology.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in clinical psychology and 1 year in a team management 
  • Previous experience with MSF or other INGOs is an asset
  • Experience in Mental Heath Group is an asset
  • Experience in Trauma-Focused Therapy is an asset
  • Experience within a multidisciplinary team desirable
  • Experience in working with refugees is an asset

Languages:

  • Written and Spoken English.
  • Written and Spoken Egyptian/Middle Eastern Arabic

Knowledge: Desirable computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
