Job Description

Role Purpose

The Business Partnering function will work with key business leads to shape and support the delivery of the people component of business strategies and priorities.  The role will do this by building knowledge of the business landscape within MENA for the Exams business and provide authoritative expertise to advise, coach and facilitate complex and critical people related initiatives and issues, as well as ensuring that change is effective and sustainable.  The role will be responsibility for the relationship between HR and the Exams business for all aspects of the employee lifecycle

Main Accountabilities

Consultancy, analysis & problem-solving

  • Applies advanced knowledge of Human Resources Management to solve a range  of complex business issues within the English / Exams SBU in MENA
  • Devises non-standard or bespoke analytical approaches to understand complex problems and enable informed business-planning, decision-making and/or the development of new or improved policies and practice
  • Deploys a range of specialist or bespoke approaches relevant to their area of functional expertise to support the provision of high-quality services and advice
  • Distils complex concepts and analysis into cogent and persuasive business case presentations, which convincingly influence decision-makers about the need for significant changes to policy or practice

 

Internal customer focus

  • Builds an in-depth understanding of the E&E business in MENA, the opportunities and challenges facing this SBU, and of how those relate to wider issues across the broader organisation, to ensure the development of new policies and practices based on informed business insight and joined-up thinking
  • Consults closely with internal customers and other stakeholder to understand current and future business needs (likely to be on a quarterly time horizon), and plans work activities accordingly to ensure the services and advice they provide meets those demands

 

Service improvement

  • Influence’s partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added service that reflects the business objectives of the organization leading to enhanced employee engagement and ultimately improved productivity and performance.
  • Engage with Regional People Operations to ensure Service Delivery Management delivery meets the agreed standards.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations to more senior managers for improvements to ways of working that enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the HR function, as well as the operational effectiveness of their internal customers.
  • Makes professional recommendations which have a measurable impact on local business performance (e.g., in terms of efficiency, quality, reliability, mitigation of risk, productivity, profitability or customer satisfaction)
  • Support organisation change planned within the Region and ensure that the people dimensions are well planned, aligned with the policies and values of the British Council and implemented effectively
  • May provide specialist, functional expertise advice or ideas into the development and implementation of corporate or regional change projects.

 

Functional expertise

  • Monitoring headcount, locations and skills forecast for the business, together with developing consistent workforce planning and skills frameworks which are aligned to the business planning cycle.  This includes the analysis of HR data alongside strategic objectives to ensure the workforce strategy aligns to business objectives, as well as any forward planning, whether short, medium or long term.
  • Identifying and diagnosing business supply and demand for HR. It may also involve consulting with the wider HR team and identifying HR solutions and services that can be implemented to support the business agenda.
  • Drives consistency of approach across SBU’s in attracting, managing and developing talent to support current and future organisational needs.
  • Advises and supports senior managers on people requirements, including organisation design, talent acquisition and management, and people change implementation.
  • Provides expertise across a range of HR subjects by using data to analyse trends and associated risks. Design and deliver high impact solutions that meet the business needs.
  • Recognised internally as an authority and ‘go-to’ advisor on issues related to HR.
  • Acts as a role model and coach to developing experts within the HR function.

Job Requirements

Relationship & stakeholder management

  • Manage the relationship with the business stakeholders (Director Exams, Exams Cluster Directors and their teams), and develop an in-depth knowledge of the business by understanding its financial position, short, midrange and long-term plans and the culture being driven. Influence other HR colleagues to align and enhance integrated services that would achieve the business goals/vision.
  • Manage the relationship with relevant CoE resources to ensure consistent use of frameworks and processes.
  • Engage with business stakeholders to ensure appropriate application and utilization of CoE and other HR services
  • Develops peer/personal networks within and outside the BC to enhance own knowledge and expertise.

Leadership & management

  • Providing HR and talent input to the development of business strategy for a specific business area.  Work in partnership with business management to identify the people implications of strategic and business growth plans across defined organizational areas.
  • Ensure the alignment of talent practices and policies in line with the business and HR strategies. This includes ongoing talent strategy evaluation.
  • Has a formal role in supporting the development of wider regional HR strategy and within the business or regional unit they support
  • Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities and deliverables over a quarterly to annual time horizon

 

About You (essential requirements for the role):

  • HR BP experience in a commercial, matrix and international environment
  • Proven experience of building effective relationships with senior business leadership teams
  • Managing a range of complex internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in a multi-country or regional role

 

Desirable requirements

  • Worked in private and NGO/public sectors
  • Experience of working within the education/academic sector
