Job Description

Automotive workshop engineers are responsible for the maintenance and repair of vehicles in a workshop setting. They work closely with technicians to diagnose problems, develop and implement solutions, and ensure that vehicles are returned to customers in a safe and reliable condition.

Job Duties

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems in vehicles.
  • Develop and implement repair plans, including ordering and installing parts.
  • Supervise and train technicians.
  • Maintain workshop equipment and procedures.
  • Ensure that vehicles are repaired in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Work with suppliers to obtain the best pricing and availability of parts.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest automotive technologies and trends.
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers.
  • Answer questions about service outcomes, schedule and book appointments, vehicle drop-off and vehicle pick-up
  • Provide customers with information and advice on warranty protections, potential cost savings and the advantages of trading in versus fixing their car
  • Manage and oversee the dealership’s workflow and schedule
  • Call customers to advise them about service changes or car pick-up times
  • Maintain positive customer relationships to ensure repeat business

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in automotive engineering or a related field.
  • Experience working in an automotive workshop setting.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive mechanics and electronics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
