Job description
The Tooling Engineer is responsible for the process of tooling creation from specification through design; to support for manufacture and commissioning. This involves the design of new and replacement tools for existing processes within the factory and the generation of tools for new processes, prototypes and products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To produce tooling design layouts, concepts and detailed manufacturing drawings to Company specifications and standards.
- To produce clear specifications for tooling requirements and agree these with key engineering and manufacturing personnel.
- To take responsibility for tooling design projects.
- Support manufacture with the commissioning of new tooling and fault finding on existing tooling and associated processes.
- To follow and develop the Company’s technical and quality standards.
- To produce design/development plans in line with A.P.Q.P process and TS16949.
- To work flexibly with product design associates to produce general drawings for exhaust systems and other Company products.
- To produce detailed designs for jigs and fixtures.
- To work with members of the Design, Application Engineering, Sales and Production Teams to promote a smooth flow of work between these departments.
- To support project teams and continuous improvement activities as and when required.
- To visit customers and suppliers as necessary.

Organisation structure
The Tooling Engineer regardless of other duties has a direct responsibility to the Manager and to the Head of Department.
Working Conditions
As specified by the Company. The Tooling Engineer must follow established health and safety practices.

- Technical qualification(s) and /or experience.
- Experience in the use of 2-D & 3-D design packages.
- An ability to work on own initiative.
- Be self motivated, enthusiastic, reliable and a team player.
- Methodical approach with an emphasis on accuracy and quality of work.
