Job Description

  • Job Description
  • Maintain cleanliness of the art rooms, preparation rooms and equipment.
  • To ensure all classrooms and studios are equipped with a wide variety of art materials, boards, canvases and papers of all sizes and that these materials are checked daily, replenished and stored neatly and labelled so accessible to pupils in drawers. 
  • Support the classroom in preparing lesson materials for teachers.
  • Safely and carefully deal with and store all chemicals as per guidance.
  • Follow instructions from art teachers and the Head of Art regarding safety.
  • Be informed of hazards around the Art department and let supervisors know of any issues. 
  • Periodical maintenance of equipment as instructed.
  • Support in the inventory of equipment and resources.
  • Support in classrooms as required with practical work (only when directed by the teacher)
  • Supporting teachers with photocopying.
  • Maintain suitable hygiene and appearance. 
  • Keep to set break times and 10.15am to 10.45am and 12.45 to 1.15pm, and to use designated spaces (either the art office or main staff room).
  • To assist classroom teachers as directed to produce creative displays for the department and to contribute to whole school display. 
  • To ensure store rooms are kept tidy and shelves are labelled. 
  • To clean water pots and paint palettes
  • Other reasonable requests of the Head of Art, teachers and other art technicians. 
  • Stock
  • To assist with an inventory of equipment and stock control in order to maintain a supply of materials. Order stock as directed by the Head of Department so that resources are adequate for lessons. 
  • To liaise with suppliers in the repair and maintenance of all machines and equipment.
  • To help move, unpack, and check deliveries of supplies.
  • To maintain well organised materials preparation/store rooms.
  • To maintain and clean standard fixtures and fittings and prep areas on a daily basis (including paint palettes, silkscreens and printing mats).
  • Ceramics studio
  • To assist in the preparation of clay and glazes for student work.
  • To clean and maintain all modelling tools and equipment.
  • To operate the pug mill to recycle clay and to fire students work in the kiln.
  • To ensure that the kiln area is locked when firing.
  • Silkscreen room
  • To test lights and equipment within the studio and repair as necessary.
  • To ensure all screens are recycled and in good condition.
  • Clean, and stretch new screens for students to use.
  • Safely store chemicals and ensure the room is locked at all times unless in use. 

Job Requirements

  • Must have very good written and spoken English.
  • Hold a degree in Visual Art or have extensive experience as an artist or art technician in a similar setting. 
  • Should have experience of working in an education setting and working with children. 
  • Must be able to work to deadlines and solve technical problems creatively. 
  • Must be able to manage their own time effectively and keep to deadlines.
  • Working hours: 7:45am - 3:45pm
