Job Description

Planning:

The MYP coordinator is responsible for monitoring the effective implementation of key and related concepts and global contexts in the curriculum. In turn, this monitoring allows the collective discussion of, and adjustments to, the ways in which the school uses and implements this essential dimension of the MYP.The MYP Coordinators role is to:

  • Lead the process of curriculum developing or reviewing on a regular basis.
  • Strengthen the alignment between written, the taught and assessed curriculum
  • Develop and monitor policies for teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Maintains an archive of curriculum planning in different levels; vertical and horizontal articulation according to the MYP guidelines
  • Lead collaborative planning meetings to integrate subjects. Leads the follow-up meetings and monitors the implementation of integration.
  • Create and reviews the school’s action plan
  • Facilitate induction process for new teachers
  • Encourage an inquiry-based learning environment within the school community
  • Play an active role in planning and facilitating students learning outcome events
  • Allocate meeting time for planning, timetabling or scheduling
  • Review the curriculum, maintains the curriculum documentation and the development in the school
  • Keep evidence of reflection in student work, process journals, portfolios and self-assessment documents
  • Evaluate the action projects and service learning results
  • Conduct staff reflection on MYP units and unit planning
  • Review of subject-group overviews and the ATL planning
  • Lead the process of curriculum developing or reviewing on a regular basis
  • Review the curriculum set for all MYP
  • Support teachers in their delivery of learning through modeling best practices in, co-teaching and co-planning of lessons and units
  • Provide guidance and support to their teachers
  • Responsible for the revision of the unit plans/lesson plans/vertical plans/overview
  • Organize the procedures for the supervision and assessment the personal project
  • provide teachers, students and parents with guidance concerning the personal project, including updating the school’s personal project handbook.
  • provide teachers, students and parents with guidance regarding the school’s service as action
    requirements, including updating the school’s service as an action handbook.
  • Follow up the process of the Community Project and Personal Project
  • Make copies of relevant IB MYP publications available to all staff

Assessment:The MYP Coordinators role is to:

  • Check and approves the students’ deadlines set by the Head of School with regards to the internal assessment in the subjects
  • organize standardization of assessment within the subject groups
  • Assist in the admission process for the testing and assessment of students during the academic year and summer vacation
  • Review the students’ copybooks to ensure correction and the follow up
  • Follow up on the internal assessment conducted and ensure student’s work is collected following the deadlines set by the Heads of Departments
  • Develop and coordinates assessment strategies
  • ensure appropriate conditions for the conduct of eAssessment
  • oversee the implementation of the published subject-specific assessment criteria
  • communicate with the IB office in one of the working language of the IB
  • keep copies of all correspondence with the IB, including forms, documents and reports
  • ensure appropriate conditions for the conduct of eAssessment
  • contribute to the organization and conduct of the procedures for the initial authorization and subsequent programme evaluations.

Communication:The MYP Coordinators role is to:

  • Communicate with parents and the wider community regarding the implementation of the curriculum at the school.
  • Set-up a system of communication and collaboration among all staff members involved in implementing the program.
  • Plan the professional development needs for staff
  • Conduct parents information sessions about the curriculum
  • Provide introductory information on the MYP
  • Support the head to ensure that parent meetings concerning the MYP are organized on a regular basis
  • Help parents understand the MYP assessment criteria and the school assessment policy and procedures
  • participate in the selection of MYP faculty and staff
  • promote the effective coordination of the IB continuum
  • maintain accurate school information via the IB information system (IBIS)
  • Work in collaboration with the head-office to review schedules and substitution.

Resource Management:The MYP Coordinators role is to:

  • Make recommendations for the purchase of suitable resources to support curriculum implementation.
  • Allocate resources and establishing priorities
  • Help locate resources to support the implementation of the curriculum.
  • support the Head of Secondary to ensure that appropriate textbooks, resources and facilities are available
  • Collaborates with the teachers to identify resources to be ordered
  • Approve all teachers requests, material needed/ trips/ equipment/print/photocopy

Job Requirements

  • At least five years of teaching experience Preferably at international schools and IB Schools .
  • 2 to 3 years' Experience at IB schools as Coordinator
  • Taught IB MYP/DP during their career
  • Courses or workshops for international education (preferably IB Workshops )
  • Must possess excellent instructional delivery techniques and the ability to guide and train students in effective techniques and strategies.
  • Must possess familiarity with the subject(s) being taught and demonstrate knowledge of the methodologies of effective teaching.
  • Must possess ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, & the public community
  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Exceptional English and Arabic language skills
  • Exceptional organization and presentation skills
  • Ability to teach and lead educational information sessions to students and parents
  • Leadership skills
  • Good Computer skills
