Job Description

  • Develop, refine, and implement Operations strategy including aspects such as area selection, product design, and delivery, portfolio quality management, supply chain, etc.
  • Responsible for the management of the overall quality and efficiency of operations
  • Be accountable for the aggregate plan and delivery of systems, operations, properties & maintenance, and the general operating model of our education management services
  • Leverage the advantages of bringing together the operational expertise and drive through more efficient ways of working
  • Ensure strategic objectives shaped at the Executive Management level are translated into tactical plans with mechanisms for key measurements in place to monitor progress.
  • Coordinate the efforts of the different operational areas under management to ensure minimal duplication of efforts, maximum efficiency, and to maximize value for money
  • Coach and develop school leadership teams to embed performance management strategies into their schools’ everyday routines, and ultimately raise student academic achievement.
  • Contribute to the development of the business strategy for the next 2-3 years by providing a view on potential improvements for services based on assessments of the existing situation and anticipated changes in the external environment.
  • Co-develop infrastructure and equipment requirements relevant to projects, coordinate with external counterparties, serve as a focal point for project development review & verify technical assumptions related to project operations.
  • Perform various business-related duties supporting the development, analysis, and technical aspects of infrastructure, equipment, and utilities in projects.
  • Analyze the effectiveness of processes and systems in use at project levels and recommend corrective action.
  • Benchmark operations against industry standards and create measures to improve productivity.
  • Participate in the review and update of policies and procedures at a country level and advise the senior management team on the potential implications of the new system, policies, and procedures
  • Implement all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that correct procedures are followed by staff under the supervision
  • Develop/Adhere/ Comply with approved school operational policies and procedures
  • Provides operational support, solutions, and opportunities for schools.
  • Responds to non-instructional school-based inquiries and requests for information or support in a timely manner.
  • Makes visits to schools and other sites, as necessary, to resolve issues and address concerns.
  • People Management
  • Lead and manage the operational team to achieve its mandated targets in accordance with annual operational plans
  • Ensure an empowering work environment and team building in compliance with our values, principles, and attitude.
  • Ensure an enabling environment for staff performance, recognition, and reward of the programs team to encourage staff productivity, innovation, and performance (e.g. facilities, equipment, duty facilitation, team building etc.).
  • Participate in the review of staff job descriptions and setting of performance standards
  • Participate in the recruitment of administrative and operational staff at the school level under supervision.
  • Assign performance objectives to supervised staff, conduct comprehensive performance appraisals of supervised staff and provide/obtain feedback when necessary, and ensure that performance records of staff under supervision are submitted to HR on time.
  • Provide induction, training, coaching, mentoring, and advice to supervised staff to ensure that they understand and carry out their responsibilities effectively.
  • Works with HR Function to identify training needs and development opportunities for supervised staff.
  • Any other work allocated by the competent authority from time to time.
  • Financial and Operational Management
  • Develop, monitor, review, and update the Projects activities and work plan to ensure that it attains its objectives as cost-effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Manage relevant school-related departmental budgets including signing off on invoices and quotes within the mandate.
  • Re-balance resources between different areas e.g. reallocating budgets, but within overall approved resources for the year.
  • Escalate out of budgets items to the CEO for approval.
  • Manage the expenditure and disbursement of resources allocated to pipeline projects.
  • Review relevant expenditures from the team line staff to ensure conformity to Financial Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitor and advise on project spending and variance reports as per Company processes and procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Management, Social Sciences, or development studies
  • Project planning and management, participatory approaches and methodologies, monitoring and evaluation of Essential Experience
  • A Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, in operations and supply chain, and at least 3 years of which should be in a similar position, the experience of working in a multi-cultural context essential.
  • Experience in managing funding from a diversity of sources including governments, aid agencies, and the private sector.
  • Essential Knowledge
  • A minimum of 10 years of operations management experience across a range of business disciplines
  • Possesses requisite experience in operational frameworks, financial management, and relevant value chain cycles.
  • Competence in strategic planning and regulatory issues is also essential
  • In-depth understanding of the education and TVET sectors
  • Sound and up-to-date knowledge of development concepts, methodologies, and techniques including demonstrated understanding of TVET issues at the operational levels
  • Track record of delivering mutually successful business outcomes
  • Understanding of the project cycle management
  • Strong knowledge of M&E methodology, quality assurance
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for decision-making and problem-solving
