Job Description

The Group Environmental Lead will be the environmental and social focal point driving environmental improvements to meet Good International Industry Practice (GIIP) including IFC Performance Standards across the portfolio of new developments and operations.

  • Act as an authority on environmental and social topics; communicating legal and IFC Performance Standard requirements and performance improvement opportunities;
  • Advise senior management including Group HSE Asset Managers of key environmental and social issues that need to be managed across the Group and within individual JOCs to help shape Company Strategy and Policy;
  • Encourage a line-led sustainable development culture, raise awareness of what Environmental and Social GIIP translates to in day to day operations and gain broad based consensus for improvement plans to implement GIIP within a ‘One Team’ approach;
  • Contribute to the management of the Group’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction and reporting requirements against defined targets.
  • Identify environmental and social requirements for inclusion within JOC plans and budgets;
  • Ensure effective implementation of the company’s project management system requirements to deliver safe, environmentally protective designs within new developments without harm to local communities including participation in ENVID studies;
  • Coordinate with JOCs to ensure Environmental and Social Impact Assessments are tendered and prepared in line with GIIP practice and that appropriate consultation and engagement processes with key stakeholders are adopted;
  • Conduct visits and audits across JOC activities to support local teams.
  • Identify, help coordinate and communicate Community Investment / CSR activities;
  • Contribute to the preparation of Sustainability Reports for sections relevant to the role; and,
  • Review New Venture risks and opportunities as they arise.

 

Job Requirements

Qualification Requirements:

  • Degree in relevant Engineering, Science, HSE or sustainability specific discipline.
  • Additional specialist training e.g Masters or sustainability related diploma.

Experience:

  • 10 to 15 years practical environmental and social management experience predominantly within an oil and gas industry setting. Experience of work within a Joint Operated Company environment considered advantageous as well as engagement experience with external stakeholders.
  • First-hand experience of key E&S issues pertinent to upstream oil and gas operations including IFC Performance Standard implementation.
