Job Description
- Treat children, staff, and visitors to the school as appropriate with the aim of encouraging children to return to their normal timetable as soon as appropriate.
- Provide confidential counseling and health advice services as appropriate;
- Administer medication according to the school policy, and keep accurate records.
- Perform necessary health checks to assist with diagnosis.
- Liaise with parents and staff in accordance with the school policies on medical and mental health.
- Ensure that the School Medical Room is appropriately organized, stocked, and equipped.
- Ensure safe storage, usage, and disposal of medical supplies and drugs.
- Provide first aid kits around the school and replacement of supplies.
- Maintain children’s files, medical records, and Medical Room attendance records (including incident and treatment records).
- Create and update the list of children with ‘need to know’ conditions - sharing this with staff.
- Develop individual health care plans where appropriate in liaison with parents and staff; giving support to relevant teaching staff in their dealings with children in the classroom and in extra-curricular activities.
- Treat children with identified health needs such as diabetes, asthma, enuresis, allergies, etc.
- Operate procedures for control of infectious diseases.
- Carry out child surveillance programs (e.g. height, weight, and dental).
- Raise awareness of medical and health issues among pupils and staff; throughout the School.
- Ensure medical questionnaires and all relevant parental consent forms to administer or carry medicine etc. on entry to school and at agreed stages of school career are obtained and retained.
- Provide cover for School Activities and occasional school events as required.
Job Requirements
- Must be a general practitioner or specialist pediatrician.
- The ability to make and implement decisions while building a high performing team
- Strong management and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Fluency in English (reading, writing speaking)
