Job Description

Carrying out all activities involving social support to individual patients/survivors and linking them with other relevant support services and communities at large, according to MSF principles and guidelines. Enhancing the target population’s social condition to have an impact on health-related outcomes.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Conducting social assessments, identifying the social support needs of patients/survivors, including legal, protection, shelter/housing, financial/vocational, food security, and access to medical and psychosocial support services beyond the project intervention scope.
  •  Supporting the provision of comprehensive care to patients and their families, by actively coordinating their work with the other members of the MSF multidisciplinary team (eg. medical, MHPSS) and linking with multi-sectoral services such as protection, safety, security, legal, justice, education, and livelihood.
  •  Providing direct social support based on social assessments and facilitating referrals to evaluated external re-sources. Provide systematic follow up care regarding attendance of clinical appointments and following up on referrals made to relevant multi-sectoral services aimed at improving the quality of life of patients/survivors.
  •  Participating in the creation and maintenance of any material needed for the activities of social workers, including facilities and equipment in order to ensure continuity.
  •  Mapping and regular updating of formal and informal support services (incl. existing community resources). Assess quality of existing support services, with identification of gaps and advocacy for an improved culturally appropriate social response. 
  • Maintaining records, statistics, files, and reports on all social work activities and follow up care either provided by MSF or other support services. Identifying gaps in the available services and with the team prioritizing and developing plans following the objectives of MSF.

Main Responsibilities:-

The position is for a new project opening in Al Salam focusing on care of survivors of sexual violence.  Limited OPD services will also be offered.

General

  • Set up social action plans and conduct case management.
  • Refer cases to relevant local organizations as needed.
  • Identify and assess urgent or emergency social cases.
  • Act as focal person with partners who would refer patients to MSF clinic and act as focal person for our patients with the actors who would need to be referred out to obtain social and medical services.
  • Document the patient’s social situations, referrals and action plan evolution of each patient based on their action plans.
  • Keep records, statistic sheets and files updated, reporting social activities, in order to prioritize and develop appropriate programs or projects.
  • Follow up on patient referrals.
  • Take an active role in managing, coordinating and arranging any activities that would run under the SW department and/ or others.
  • Ensure proper documentation of case management as per MSF protocols.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and dignity are respected at all times.
  • Support in other tasks as assigned

Communications & Mapping:

  • Support the Health Promotion IEC department in identifying potential actors to have an active cooperation with.
  • Provide administrative and technical assistance to map and update MSF Social Network that includes operating international and national organizations, community based-organizations, NGOs and others.
  • Support in analyzing the scope of available social services to ensure proper referrals are made

Team Work:

  • Maintain close and regular collaboration and exchange of information with relevant team members.
  • Keep clinicians informed about patient case management.
  • Participate in clinic meetings and case discussions.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Competencies:-

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or other related fields is desirable
  • Experience: Previous experience working in social work and case management or legal aid or communications or development is desirable. 
  • Language: Essential is fluency in Arabic. Excellent written and spoken English is desirable.
  • Competencies: Results & Quality Orientation, Behavioural Flexibility, Teamwork & Cooperation, Commitment to MSF Principles, Cross Cultural Awareness
