Health Promoter IEC Officer (Prolonged)

Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides. 
• According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics 
• Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the HP IEC Supervisor. 
• Under the guide of HP IEC Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her. 
• Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target. 
• Report to HP IEC Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.  

Main Responsibilities

• The Health Promoter IEC Officer will be responsible for raising awareness of sexual violence (SV) and related health services in the El Salam community and establishing links to promote utilization of care for survivors of sexual violence.
• Collect information on the understanding/perception of sexual violence in the target population, including rumor collection and feedback volunteered by influential community members.
• Assist in gathering any pertinent information on women’s health in general and more particularly on sexual violence within the community.
• Facilitate and participate in awareness activities on sexual violence and service promotion in the community
• Establish and maintain good contacts with key actors in the community (e.g. religious leaders, traditional healers, etc), organizations (e.g. NGOs), institutions (e.g. schools)
• Facilitate and participate in awareness activities on sexual violence for the staff (MSF/Ministry of Health)
• In collaboration with the HP IEC Supervisor support in develop (or re-use) educational materials (educational games, pictures, posters) according to culture and population and choose appropriate channels of communication to spread messages.
• Inform the HP IEC Manager of all HP activities and of problems encountered
• With support of the HP IEC Supervisor, evaluate the understanding of the health messages by the beneficiaries and adapt the content of information if necessary
• Participate in monitoring and evaluation of activities in care for survivors of sexual violence (and other health activities as needed)
• Participate in relevant medical and team meetings 
• Ensure confidentiality and respect patient/survivor dignity at all times.
