Project/Proposal Summary: 

  • The Trade Reform and Development in Egypt (TRADE) activity will assist the Government of Egypt to undertake economic reforms, and to assist SMEs to build the capacity to take full advantage of new trade opportunities created by those reforms. The project aims to improve bilateral trade flows with trading partners, increase trade and export earnings, and attract business and investment to Egypt. 

Position Summary: 

  • The Food Safety Capacity Building Advisor will report directly to the COP and will be responsible for leading TRADE’s technical activities with the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority and coordinating with USDA’s other SPS related projects in Egypt. The Food Safety Capacity Building Advisor will be an Egyptian national with extensive food safety and management experience. The Advisor will leverage and be supported by Land O’Lakes Inc.’s more than 100 food safety experts across the Fortune 200 corporation. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead TRADE’s technical assistance activities with the NFSA
  • Coordinate with the existing USDA TAIB project and other donor funded programs
  • Identify emerging needs and facilitate targeted technical assistance
  • Provide technical direction and input into the development of project annual work plans and ensure the achievement of project goals and targets
  • Participate in regular project management communications (teleconference, written monthly status updates, etc.) with Venture37 HQ
  • Ensure project activities comply with Venture37 policies

Job Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in food safety and/or food sciences in technology with at least 3 years’ experience in the private sector preferred
  • A Master’s degree in food science, food safety or a related field.
  • Extensive knowledge of the food safety sector in Egypt, particularly with key governmental stakeholders including the National Food Safety Authority, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Trade and Industry, EGAC, etc.
  • Experience working with and knowledge of various government-level food safety regimes throughout the Gulf region; experience and knowledge of the food safety sector and food safety regime in the United States preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of Egyptian food safety law and regulations
  • A network of key food safety sector stakeholders in both the public and private sector
  • Demonstrated ability to adaptively manage technical implementation of project activities
  • Applied knowledge of food inspection and auditing of agribusiness in Egypt
  • Knowledge of  key food safety and quality certifications
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in taking initiative and resolving difficulties
  • Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Arabic
