Job Description
- Banyan Global, an international development consulting firm based in Washington DC, is seeking applications from qualified Egyptian candidates for an anticipated project building on USAID’s investments in assisting Egypt’s small farmers to export horticulture produce that meet international standards. The project will improve Egypt’s food security through improved income for farmers and increase access to healthy and nutritious food for Egyptians. This activity will create additional linkages to provide high quality produce to local grocery stores, hotels, restaurants, and food processors in Egypt.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing technical interventions to catalyze financing for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) and agri-businesses in Egypt.
- Building the capacity of Egyptian business service advisory (BDS) firms in financial analysis, business planning, and general financial assistance to SMEs and agribusinesses.
- Identifying agri-businesses and SMEs seeking debt/equity financing and supporting their financial needs to access investment.
- Supporting the development of SME business plans, cash/flow statements and other financial documents to secure short- and long-term financing.
- Providing access to finance support for SMEs, focusing on agri-businesses.
- Managing the development and delivery of training and technical assistance to financial institutions and SMEs; serving as a liaison with key bank and non-bank financial institution (NBFI) partners.
- Assisting in the organization of Business to Business (B2) meetings across the region to identify, screen and train agri-businesses and SMEs seeking debt and equity financing.
- Assisting in facilitating the use of USAID-funded Development Credit Authority credit guarantees
- Providing thought leadership on innovative mechanisms to increase access to finance for SMEs, women-owned businesses and exporters.
Job Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience designing and implementing access to finance programs in Egypt
- Knowledge of and experience with SME financing, trade finance, and agricultural lending programs in Egypt
- Experience working with commercial banks in Egypt
- Experience working with equity investors in the region
- Experience in designing and delivering training and technical assistance for banks and financial institutions on SME financing
- Experience designing and implementing training on agribusiness and agri-finance development
- Experience providing hands-on technical assistance to agri-businesses and SMEs to support financing (e.g., developing a business plan, cash/flow statements)
- Understanding and exposure to USAID’s development credit authority program
- Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory
- Experience working with USAID
- Master’s degree in business, economics, finance or related field
