Job Description
- Propagate micro cuttings for production under aseptic technique.
- Perform repetitive tasks while maintaining quantity and quality of the plantlets at high level of accuracy.
- Work with the Laboratory Manager to troubleshoot problems in the micropropagation stages and assist production team during down time on overall maintenance of plants.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the laboratory and greenhouses; clean, sterilize and maintain equipment and facilities.
- Understand and adhere to strict SOP’s for all laboratory duties.
- Operate and calibrate equipment including laminar flow hood, autoclave, and pH meter in a safe environment and sterilized manner and follow up on the maintenance of equipment.
- Utilize Good Documentation Practices(GDP) to record and maintain data records using approved forms and a controlled notebook.
- Responsible for lab fumigation and prepare nutrient agar and dextrose media for microbial open plate method to evaluate the microbial contamination in lab and recording results.
- Clean lab ware, empty and wash tissue culture jars and utensils, autoclave waste.
- Labor supervision in all laboratory and greenhouses departments.
- Participate in activities within and outside area of expertise when needed.
- Involved in all activities in Nurseries, Greenhouses and Aeroponics system including Planting, hardening, cutting, nutrition preparation, balancing EC & pH in nutrient tanks, continues monitoring of plants and minitubers quality in Greenhouses and cold storage facility.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Bachelors of Sciences in Plant Biology, Botany, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biology or Cell Biology. (Grade: Very Good/excellent)
- Experience in Plant Tissue Culture and relevant field is considered an asset.
- Comfortable with highly repetitive tasks with hand and wrist movements.
- Working in Night shifts, public holidays as per production plan.
- Be reliable, work unsupervised & self-motivate.
- Good computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Have good hand-eye co-ordination to learn how to improve speed and efficiencies.
- Have great communication skills to ask questions and discuss results.
