Job Description

  • Establishes and maintains personnel, medical, and other confidential files and records according to established procedures. Responds to related requests for information.
  • Prepares and processes paperwork for new hires and ensures the completion of all required new hire documentation and benefit related forms. Also assists with preparing employee exit and separation information and forms.
  • Administers employment benefit, reimbursement, and retirement programs. Maintains related records, prepares related reports, and ensures timely payment of associated invoices.
  • Communicates with benefit participants regarding policies and procedures, regulations, and benefit changes.
  • Processes classification changes for all employees and maintains the wage and salary program.
  • Assist City employees, job applicant’s, vendors, and the public
  • with human resources inquiries. Prepares all related correspondence.
  • Responds to unemployment claim notifications, prepares necessary paperwork, and attends unemployment hearings.
  • Plans and executes employee relations programs, including non-monetary reward and recognition programs, communication efforts, special events, and related activities to promote positive employee morale.

Job Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business administration, human resources, labor relations, or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in labor relations, personnel administration or related field.
  • Ability to establish confidential and effective working relationships and use good judgment when dealing with employees and other internal and external customers.
  • General knowledge of the laws, statutes and regulations pertaining to employee recruitment, hiring, discharge, record keeping, training, insurance, and retirement.
  • Skill in maintaining public and confidential records according to statutory requirements.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare comprehensive reports on all matters related to personnel administration.

  • Proficient with office equipment and technology and the ability to master new technologies.
  • Ability to type and enter data with speed and accuracy.
