Job Description

Scope of work 

Head of Legal is primarily responsible for supporting the high quality of Fawry Microfinance’s (FMF) loan portfolio through a well-organized legal process, as well as for protecting FMF’s financial and reputation position from internal or external threats.

Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Ensuring all contracts, legal documents and templates are up-to-date and compliant with legislative and government laws, while representing the company in all legal proceedings, lawsuits, and contract negotiations with stakeholders.
  • Reviewing the company's internal systems and regulations to ensure compatibility with prevailing legislation; including reviewing organizational practices on a periodical basis to protect the company against legal risks.
  • Initiate all possible legal corrective actions including legal actions in relevant courts against loan customers who failed to pay their installments on time
  • Represent the company in entire judiciary processes against external or internal parties/individuals or organizations toward whom FMF may have a financial, criminal or reputation protection claim, or who claimed the same from FMF.
  • Support internal investigations conducted on the company’s employees who violate the rules and regulations of the company, internal procedures, or governmental or external laws and regulations.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and handling the corporate legal documentation for Board of Directors, Risk, Audit, Governance Committees, and all specified committees; this includes ordinary and extraordinary general assembly meetings.
  • Keeping official documents of the company up to date, and helping to draft, and negotiate all company contracts with internal, external, or third parties, related to various activities performed by the company.
  • Liaise with finance department and company accountants on all taxation issues.
  • Provide legal advice to the company management whenever needed.
  • Oversee and support the implementation of corporate governance.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in law.
  • Good spoken level of English.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience at the same position in an Egyptian or international microfinance organization / commercial bank.
  • 4-5 years of experience in staff-management (with not less than 5 staff).
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, stress-resistant, result-oriented person.
  • Strong leadership, time-management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make effective decisions regarding processes implementation and staff organization.
