Job Description
Scheduling
- Assistant manager is responsible to create an employee schedule. If an employee is unable to work his scheduled shift, the assistant manager finds a replacement to make sure the restaurant is properly staffed.
- If an employee forgets to clock in and out, the assistant manager can enter the employee's time clock punches manually to ensure that he is properly paid.
Opening and Closing
- The assistant manager is responsible for opening and closing the restaurant when the general manager is off duty.
- This includes physically locking and unlocking the doors and ensuring that alarm systems are activated or deactivated.
- She is responsible for overseeing other employees to make sure that the restaurant is properly stocked and ready to receive customers at opening time.
- After the restaurant closes, she oversees employees to make sure the restaurant is properly cleaned and ready for the next shift.
Inventory
- An assistant manager is required to take inventory of how many food items and restaurant supplies are in stock.
- If food items and supplies are low, the assistant manager contacts vendors and distributors to order products.
- When the order arrives, she verifies that the order was fulfilled correctly.
Customers and Employees
- If a customer has an issue or complaint while the assistant manager is on duty, it is her job to handle it.
- In many cases, she has the same weight of authority as the general manager when it comes to ensuring that guests have a pleasant dining experience.
- Depending on the restaurant, the assistant manager may also help the general manager interview and hire employees.
- If an employee habitually violates restaurant policy, she has the authority to discipline or terminate the employee.
- Restaurant assistant managers are part of a team. You will be working with others to make a great dining experience
