Job Description

1. Leader for Preschool Climate

Responsibilities for Preschool Environment:

  • Plan for equipping indoor and outdoor areas to reflect a healthy educational environment.
  • Plan for and aid in providing an environment appropriate for young children.
  • Maintain positive relationships among students, teachers, parents, congregation and community.

2. Manager of the Preschool

Responsibilities for finances:

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Operate within the budget.
  • Handle petty cash.
  • Oversee collection of fees and tuition and maintain records.
  • Facilitate by informing Preschool treasurer, in, writing of all additions and/or changes to current students, as well as vacation, extra hours per day and/or late pick-up.
  • Purchase food and supplies as needed.
  • Manage preschool debit card purchases.

Responsibilities as Liaison between Congregation and Preschool:

  • Represent the preschool in congregational activities.
  • Communicate the program of the preschool to the congregation using personal, visual and printed communication.
  • Cooperate with the church when events occur, like funerals and other events.

Responsibilities for Public Relations and Communications:

  • Maintain positive parent-school relationships.
  • Maintain a parent’s library or resource center.
  • Prepare parent newsletters.
  • Keep parents informed of progress and needs of their children.
  • Communicate with Preschool board member maintaining website.

Responsibilities for Recruitment and Admissions:

  • Promote the preschool in the congregation and community.
  • Acquaint parents of prospective students with our school, its purpose and philosophy.
  • Provide enrollment materials that reflect the philosophy of the preschool and meet state regulations.
  • Provide promotional brochures and activities.

Responsibilities for Administration:

  • Handle all problems related to the administration of the school.
  • Prepare preschool calendar and prepare and retain staff, children and preschool family records.
  • Notify appropriate person of needed repairs and maintenance.
  • Order and manage supplies and equipment.
  • Keep health records for the children.
  • Update and maintain handbook.
  • Assist the board in preparation of job descriptions.
  • Maintain a referral system for children with special needs.
  • Plan for and conduct disaster and fire drills.
  • Keep informed of the school’s legal responsibilities and liabilities.
  • Make regular safety checks of all space and equipment.
  • Implement in place discipline and termination policy for children.
  • Arrange for and direct in consultation with the Lead Pastor and board chairperson interviews of potential staff members.

3. Educational Leader

Responsibilities for Curriculum Development:

  • Plan a curriculum that is age-appropriate and complies with the philosophy of the preschool.
  • Work with preschool board members to implement in-house enrichment.
  • Oversee the evaluation of the student’s progress, abilities and needs.
  • Arrange a sound nutritional program (snacks).

4- Staff Management

  • Plan for professional growth.
  • Keep abreast of research and new developments in field of early childhood education.
  • Maintain a professional library.
  • Participate in professional organizations. Provide orientation for new staff members.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Conduct quarterly evaluations for first year teachers/aides and bi-annual evaluations for all other teachers/aides.

Job Requirements

The administrator shall have the following qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the requirements for providing the type of care and supervision
  • children need, and the ability to communicate with such children.
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to maintain or supervise the maintenance of financial and other records.
  • Ability to establish the academy's policy, program and budget.
  • Ability to recruit, employ, train, direct and evaluate qualified staff, and to
  • terminate employment of staff.
  • Each licensee shall make provision for continuing operation and carrying out of the
  • Administrator's responsibilities during any absence of the administrator.
