Job Description

Immediate Job-Vacancy: Database Editor For the years 2017-2019
We are urgently searching for a database editor with the Center for Inter-cultural Dialogue and Translation (CIDT) in Cairo, Egypt, to maintain the Arab-West Report Database.

This database is one of the largest collections of data on Muslim-Christian Relations in contemporary Egypt. In order to attract future subscribers, it is key to ensure that our database adheres to the highest academic and professional standards in its data organization and content.

The database editor will be closely working with Matthew Sparks, MA in Middle East History with a minor in Arabic from Georgetown University and student of the famous Prof. Dr. Yvonne Haddad who had recommended him to apply for the position of head of the CIDT-DANS project. DANS is the database organization of the combined Dutch universities and research centers and is a very prestigious organization to work with. Matthew has ambitions to do his PhD and considers this project as an excellent preparation to train him in meeting international academic standards and research preparation. This includes being very precision oriented for the smallest details. The skill-set that this job develops is ideal for conducting future work in academia.

The position includes:

  • Editing and uploading new content onto the Arab-West Report Database and our related websites and classifying data according to our database criteria.
  • Managing the database infrastructure and developing a network of university and research libraries in order to promote the content of our database and attract subscribers.

Job Requirements

Ideal candidates for the job will have:

  • MA degree in Middle East Studies, Religious Studies, Political Science, or History.
  • 1+ year of relevant experience in database management, library sciences, or information management.
  • Excellent English academic language proficiency and knowledge of how to write and transliterate Arabic names in English.
  • Training or certification in web design, social media management, or digital communications a plus.
  • Salary begins a $275 per month and is negotiable. Milestone payments will be made upon the completion of phase one of the project, and upon completion of the project in full.
