Interior Designer

Job brief

Making interior spaces functional, safe and beautiful by determining space requirements and selecting decorative items, such as colors, lighting and materials. Responsible in planning the design of living and commercial environments and managing the work of turning the ideas into reality.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with architects, structural engineers, construction engineering and builders to determine how interior spaces will function, look, and be furnished.
• Undertaking a variety of space designing projects.
• Reading blueprints and being aware of building codes and inspection regulations.
• Dealing with design from conceptual development and liaising with the stakeholders to managing and executing the design.
• Defining project requirements and schedule during the “brief”
• Interpreting and translating customer needs into rough plans
• Sketch preliminary design plans, including electrical layouts.
• Specify materials and furnishings, such as lighting, furniture, wall finishes, flooring, and plumbing fixtures.
• Set costs and project fees according to budget.
• Research and decide on materials and products sourcing
• Produce “sample” and “mood products”
• Research and follow industry changes, evolutions and best practices
• Determine the client’s goals and requirements of the project
• Consider how the space will be used and how people will move through the space
• Prepare final plans, using computer applications.
• Create a timeline for the interior design project and estimate project costs.
• Place orders for materials and oversee installing the design elements.
• Supervise work progress.
• Visit after the project to ensure that the client is satisfied
