Job Description
- Create new designs
- Perform cost analysis for new or existing design
- Ensure availability of proposed components for a design
- Create/revise drawings - AutoCAD or hand-from mark ups, layouts or verbal instruction
- Create layouts from concept to enable draftsperson to generate detail drawings
- Select raw material, calculate weight and volume
- Perform other calculations, i.e. center of gravity, bend and stress moments
- Ensure mechanical fit of all components in a given assembly
- Coordinate proper creation of Item type, manufacturability and bill of material
- Create/maintain and release data/drawings in ERS, Mapics and engineering
- Prepare project related reports
- Self check completed assignments and cross check co-workers completed assignments
- Make estimates for incoming project
- Maintain computer software hierarchy
- Coordinate activities assignments, produce quality work and meet time schedule
- Work with manufacturing personnel to insure manufacturability of product
- Work with project and product engineering personnel
- Respond to ERC (Engineering Request of change) or equivalent for product corrections and improvements
- Maintain confidentiality of all required information
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical technology preferred
- Understanding of computerized systems, preferably Mapics, AutoCAD,and Inventor or Solid Works.
- Knowledge of math/algebra (i.e. areas of plane, volume of solids)
- Mechanics, calculation of various moments, center of gravity, etc.
- Knowledge of metal and non-ferrous materials and their properties
- Knowledge of SI (metric) system
- Familiarity with manufacturing practices
- Knowledge of U.S. Customary system (inches) and SI system (Metric), various ANSI and ISO Engineering and drafting standards
- General knowledge of ISO 9001 standards; detail knowledge of chapters
- Design control, Document control and Non-conforming product
- Knowledge of plotter, blue print machine
- Knowledge of DOS, Windows, Microsoft products, Lotus, AutoCAD,
- Genius, WinZip, Automanager View, Transpack (sheet metal layout), scheduling software, utility program, MAPICS, ERS
- Possess a solid understanding of design concepts, practices procedures
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, Sound planning and
- Organizational skills.
- Professional communication skills, both written and verbal
- High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office; PC spreadsheets (Excel preferred)
- Some travel to vendor and customer sites required
