Job Description

  • Advise students about academic requirements and selection of courses
  • Freshmen advisees Meet with advisee during orientation to assist student with initial adjustment to university academic life.
  • Special sessions should be scheduled throughout the first academic year.
  • Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures
  • Review and interpretation of placement and other standardized test scores, and courses prerequisites
  • Monitor student registration activities and recommend solutions to academic difficulties
  • Maintain systematic and frequent contact with Freshman Students
  • Coordinate communications to the students regarding academic warnings…
  • Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as comprehensive counseling, financial assistance, study abroad, etc.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, review, presentation, and revision of orientations for the freshman students.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to workshops, training sessions.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.
  • Participate in institutional student development and retention programs
  • Provides support services for students to promote retention and academic success.
  • Try to make informal out-of-class/office contacts to underscore personal interest in the student as an individual.
  • Inform and, if necessary, refer students to other institutional resources when academic, attitudinal, attendance, or other personal problems require intervention by other professionals. (e.g., Office of Academic Development, Academic Affairs, Personal Counseling, etc.)
