Job Description

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is an international non-profit organization seeking to recruit a Horticultural Supervisor to join our team in Cairo, Egypt. Responsible for the execution and co-ordination of horticultural maintenance/renovation work within the region, to assist in the day to day control of the Horticultural staff in Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco (TAM) ensuring that staff maintain the cemeteries and memorials to the Commissions standards as efficiently and economically as possible.

Job Description:

  • To become fully conversant with all aspects of the Commissions Horticultural policies, processes and procedures.
  • Familiarize quickly with the organization, staff and geography of the region.
    Organize, plan and control the horticultural and care taking work of the horticultural staff and driver/mechanic in the region.
  • Visit all sites within the region at specified intervals to ensure that satisfactory maintenance is being carried out to the Commission’s standard
  • Day to day management of the team including performance management and routine discipline.
  • Responsible for a range of administrative tasks that arise within the group, including timesheets, corporate reporting requirements and renovation plans
  • Ensure that safe working practices and the Commissions H&S policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure all horticultural machinery, irrigation systems, equipment installations, vehicle and properties are maintained in good running order, adhering to specified maintenance schedules and instructions
  • Source casual labour in conjunction with Horticultural and Works Manager, as required.
  • Report on any structural defects noted, as well as any development in the surroundings of cemeteries and memorials to the Works Supervisor
  • Assist with tree risk assessments
  • Give core and other briefings to members of the group

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • A technical qualification (BTEC / NVQ Level or local equivalent) and 2 years’ experience of supervisory experience working in a supervisory position
  • Basic understanding of structural principles and practices in order to monitor standards and efficiency
  • Ability to complete tasks and convey information clearly and concisely in a timely manner both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Experience in handling large quantities of data and delivering results against tight timeliness
  • A good level of written and spoken English and French, in addition, to a high level of literacy in your first language
  • Proven Project Management skills
  • A good level of computer literacy, MS Office
  • Undertake regular travel
  • A full and clean driving license
