Job Description

Responsible for the health of all of the people within the school, including students, staff, and guests, who serves as an advocate for the health and wellbeing of students as well as approving medical protocols and emergency procedures.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily activities of the school’s medical facilities, equipment, supplies, and staff
  • Ensure the supervision and correct implementation of policy and procedures of the school’s medical facilities
  • Provide medical advice and medical care, as appropriate and correctly to the best of his or her knowledge
  • Ensure the security and correct use of school medical equipment, facilities, and medications
  • Protect the confidentiality of all medical records and information in accordance with policy and procedures
  • Report any concerns regarding child safety and protection to the line manager immediately
  • Maintain accurate medical records for all students and staff that are continually updated
  • Maintain a log of visitors to the medical facilities including needs, diagnoses, and treatment when applicable on a daily basis
  • Serve as the school liaison with government health authorities and builds and maintain positive relationships with nearby hospitals
  • Provide relevant medical information to teaching staff regarding students with medical needs that may affect teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Confirm with Human Resources the authenticity of medical notes of those submitting documentation for Sick Leave use
  • Identify medical and other health and safety risks at the school, reporting those to the line manager with suggestions for addressing concerns
  • Ensure that medical records of all staff and students are complete and confidential
  • Order appropriate medical supplies and equipment necessary to operate the school health facilities through the line manager, using school procedures
  • Dispose of medical waste in accordance with government requirements
  • Manage any vaccination programme
  • Conduct and recommend health-related professional development sessions
  • Assist in the implementation and analysis of any testing required for staff, such as drug and/or alcohol testing, possibly in coordination with a hospital or local government health authorities
  • Conduct physical examinations of students and staff in consultation with the line manager
  • Conduct presentations to students on health and safety
  • Supervise and inform students and staff regarding the following medical conditions: vision, scoliosis, weight, height, and head lice
  • Implement and conduct head lice screening programs
  • Arrange CPR and first aid classes for personnel and follow up with additional training
  • Assist in the review and/or development of school health and safety policies
  • Conduct other medically-related tasks as indicated by line management
  • Serve as a resource to employees in their health-related issues, including examinations and investigations, referring them to other medical facilities or consultants as needed and through the medical insurance provider
  • Arrange for laboratory investigations and setup a referral system for other investigations and specialized physicians through medical insurance
  • Working with students, parents, and staff regarding the regulation of insulin through pumps, pens, medication, or injections
  • Store, supply, and properly use devices supplied by the school and by students with certain medical conditions
  • Professional behavior and respectful interactions with all seeking medical or health assistance
  • Giving travel advice and vaccinations required for specific destinations

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • A medical degree with a specialty in pediatrics, internal medicine, and/or family practice
  • At least 3 years of experience
  • English speaking, reading, and writing at B2 level or higher, and excellent Arabic language skills
  • Ability to communicate, work with others, self-manage, and carry out policies and procedures with efficiently and effectively in a timely manner
  • Able to manage others and work in teams
  • Able to make independent, immediate medical decisions
