Health and Safety Specialist

Under general supervision, assists in monitoring and coordinating environmental health and safety programs, including safety inspections, accident investigations, and safety training. Responsible for designing policies and procedures that help prevent harm to workers and property. Inspects machines and air quality, designs safe workspaces and creates policies for workers to follow that minimize job-related hazards.

• Participates in the development and implementation of safety programs such as lockout/tagout, confined space entry, fire protection, and other OSHA safety compliance programs.
• Advises the company regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure the safety of workers and staff as well as regulatory compliance including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
• Performs hazard analyses and recommends mitigation procedures to the company community.
• Participates in the development and implementation of department safety work order tracking and reporting.
• Conducts routine and follow-up environmental health, safety, and hazard inspections of company facilities.
• Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, fire and smoke incidents, or unknown hazards; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations.
• Analyzes accident and incident reports for trends; make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions.
• Leads and/or guides the work of lower-level safety technicians and/or employees.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
