Job Description

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (“the Project”) is a five-year USAID-funded activity, supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The project will work in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Giza.

ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND:

The Grants Program is one of the main activities of the Project. The Grant Application Writing Consultants will work alongside key Project staff, including the Grants Manager, Technical Team, MEL Manager and Training Manager, to develop a results-based application writing training curriculum that addresses both technical and financial elements. The anticipated training audience will be potential grantees (NGOs and Private Sector) that have had their concept papers accepted by the Grants Evaluation Committee (GEC) and have been invited by the project to develop full applications.

The training aims to increase the knowledge of participants on how to develop a results-based application, define each part of the application (goal, results, activities, indicators, cost estimating) and relate those parts logically together, resulting in a high-quality application that can ultimately be awarded through the Project’s Grants Program and implemented by the Grantee.

The Consultant may be required to travel to Upper Egypt and the Delta to deliver the training workshops to target groups at their respective location. Also, the consultant, under the supervision of the Grants Manager, will follow up with all the participants after the workshops are concluded and during the period the participants are developing their full applications to ensure that all have equal access to technical assistance.

ASSIGNMENT DURATION: Maximum of 115 days during 2022.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adapt the Project’s results-based grant application writing training manual, handouts and presentation taking into consideration Adult Learning Technique, the participatory approach and the different kind of potential grantees (NGOs members or private sector representatives) to the need of the participants.
  • Develop application cost estimating training guidelines that include information about how to determine the accurate cost of the goods or services being requested (including having potential grantees obtain quotes for all budgeted items) and align them to the activities.
  • Deliver grant application writing workshops to the prospective grantees. Several workshops will be delivered in coordination with the Grants Manager.
  • Write and submit report on the results of the training workshops and the follow-up technical assistance with any recommendations for further training/improvement.

DELIVERABLES:

  • Use Project’s grant application writing training manual and handouts, revising as necessary in conjunction with the Grants Manager.
  • Written report on results of training workshops and the follow-up technical assistance with recommendations of any further technical support.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Business Development)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in Arabic and English
  • 5 years of experience in implementing training with grassroots organizations and private sector.
  • 5 years of experience developing training manuals especially application writing training.
  • Experience with working on or administering grants programs preferred
