Job Description

  • The Resident Coordinator/Specialist is a live-in UofCanada professional who is dedicated to helping residents live their full experience at UofCanada Student Residences.
  • The resident Coordinator/Specialist supports in facilitating the social and personal transition of students into UofCanada residential community. They help enhance a sense of community among residents, to become active members in their residential community, by planning activities and providing a safe environment to all residents.
  • The Resident Coordinator/Specialist serves as a positive role model to residents and other colleagues; enforces the rules and policies of the Residence Life and the University. The Resident Coordinator/Specialist acts as a liaison between residents and the University administration.
  • The responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Act as the primary contact person for residents living within the assigned building/floors.
  • Maintain open and productive professional lines of verbal, written, and visual communication, including social media websites and messaging apps.
  • Counsel residents regarding personal and social concerns and refer them when necessary to the proper university channels.
  • Design and implement experiences for residents by helping them connect and bond in their living and learning community through promoting involvement in Residential programs and activities.
  • Design and construct residence decorations that coordinate with the overall residence hall theme of the year prior to the beginning of each semester and on different occasions (Easter, Ramadan, New year, etc).
  • Conduct periodic floor meetings for the purpose of planning experiences, disseminating information, and explaining residence hall policies and procedures.
  • Full acquaintance with the Residence rules and regulations, Student Code of Conduct, and general university policies, and refer them to residents when needed.
  • Relate well to individuals of all ethnic, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds, encouraging a better understanding of cultural diversity, inclusivity and individual differences in the residence hall.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the development of living-learning communities through building positive relationships with residents.
  • Assist residents in their adjustment to their roommate and residential community and handle roommate disagreement, curfew violation, personal crisis under the supervision of the Resident Supervisor.
  • Conduct disciplinary conferences at the request of the Resident Supervisor.
  • Respond to all witnessed violations of Residence Life and/or University policies.
  • Prepare and submit a written report of any violation or incident within 24 hours to the Residence Supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in University hearings when necessary.
  • Assist, as requested, in the handling of all emergency situations (e.g., fire, health, safety).
  • Assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls, requiring time prior to the beginning of semester courses and time following the completion of these courses.
  • Receive and promptly process requests for maintenance repairs and custodial needs received from residents.
  • Assess the physical condition of rooms before and after occupancy.
  • Assist students with the check-in and check-out form and file all forms with the immediate supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Conduct random room inspection on a regular basis (at least once every month) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents.
  • Disseminate to the resident’s information/directives from Residence Supervisor, Student Development Staff and University officials.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as needed.
  • Attend and participate in staff training sessions held prior to the beginning of each semester and throughout the year.
  • Attend scheduled one-on-one meetings with the Residence Supervisor.
  • Maintain utmost confidentiality regarding residents’ personally identifiable information.
  • Recognize the field of residential life is unpredictable and approach all aspects of the job, including any unforeseen tasks and force majeure situations, with a collegial spirit, professionalism, and dedication.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

Job Requirements

  • University Degree.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent ability to evaluate and respond to crises and emergencies.
  • Ability to deal with and respect students from different backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to establish rapport with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to design and implement experiences to meet specific goals set by UofCanada and its Residential Community.
  • High problem-solving skills.
  • Good spoken and written English language.
  • Previous experience in Higher Education and student residences is a plus.
  • Previous experience residing in student residences is a plus.
