Job Description
- The translator will translate technical, legal, and commercial documents from English to Arabic at a high level of fidelity. These documents include lengthy technical reports with diagrams and infographics to be translated.
The applicant will endeavor to provide high-calibre translation through the following supplemental activities:
- Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
- Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
- Researching legal, technical and scientific phraseology to refine translations;
- Communicating actively with management to discuss any unclear points;
- Ensure consistency of phraseology and terminology across lengthy and interconnected reports;
- Proofreading and editing final translated versions;
- Providing grammatically correct, well-expressed final versions of the translated text, using formatting that approximates the original document;
- Recreate or adjust diagrams and infographics to properly display translated text;
- Using web-based research tools throughout the translation process;
- Prioritizing work to meet deadlines.
- The applicant is expected to work on a freelance, per-project basis, with compensation to be negotiated on the basis of each job. Accordingly, the applicant should have experiencing in scoping and pricing their translation work, and delivering accordingly.
Job Requirements
Language Skills:
- Applicant must have Excellent command of both English reading comprehension and Arabic writing comprehension.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred. Any additional translation qualifications or certifications will be considered and advantage.
Mandatory IT Skills: These skills are required:
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, including advanced formatting
- Advanced proficiency in Powerpoint
- Fluency with emails and formal communication methods
Desirable IT Skills: These skills will be considered an asset:
- Experience with Mac Keynote (translating text within diagrams, etc.)
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (translating text within diagrams, etc.)
Hardware/Software Requirements:
- The translator will be expected to work independently, and should have the necessary, up-to-date, Arabic-enabled Microsoft Office software on their personal laptops/desktops.
