Mental Health Coordinator - PSTIC Program

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• The Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) has the responsibility to ensure that mental health care is provided in a professional and ethical way to people of concern. It includes combined responsibilities for mental health care managed by PSTIC and provided at Caritas Primary Health Care and paid by them and responsibilities paid by PSTIC.
  Job Description
• Mental health coordinator is a Part time job working in an NGO specializing in mental health and psycho-social support services to refugees and asylum seekers.
• The Mental Health coordinator has the overall responsibility for the organization’s Mental health services:
• participation in administrative and program management.
• Supervisor for a team of psychiatrists and their clinical work in specialized psychiatric / psychotherapy clinics.
• Supervisor of multidisciplinary teams assisting mental health cases via the psychosocial approach.
• Runs and supervises Substance use program (both inpatient and outpatient components of the program)
• Facilitate response to psychiatric emergencies 24-7 / Organize psychiatric hospitalization for clients when needed.
• Train and supervise psycho-social staff about mental health issues.
• Facilitate cooperation with governmental and NGO partners.
• Monitoring and reporting of mental health activities.
  
  1) PSYCHIATRIC EMERGENCY RESPONSE 

Ensure that all psychiatric emergencies receive timely medical and psychosocial response. 

• Arrange a 24-7 schedule for emergency response with Psychiatrists and Psychosocial Workers
• Respond to emergencies and oversee step-by-step emergency response with Psychiatrists and Psychosocial Workers 24-7 in a shared schedule 4 days a week with Senior Emergency Doctor and facilitate needed response.

2) PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITALIZATION

• Organize timely and safe psychiatric hospitalization for patients who are a danger to themselves or others in cooperation with PSTIC Psychosocial Workers, Psychosocial Supervisors and Clinic Doctors and other health and mental health partners as needed.
• Oversee that PSTIC provides regular visitation to patient, mobilizes regular family and community support, speaks to doctors in hospital for follow-up and ensures interpreters are provided as needed.
• Oversee the preparation of discharge plans for all patients who are hospitalized and ensure that patients are discharged in a timely way and have adequate plans for their psychosocial as well as medical needs.

3) CASE MANAGEMENT

All POC with mental health issues receive case management by PSTIC. They are assigned a Psychiatrist in the clinics, a Psychosocial Supervisor and PSTIC Psychosocial Worker to ensure that they receive needed medical care and psychotherapy as well as psychosocial support, comply with medication and receive needed community and family support and integration. The MHC supervises the case management of all mental health cases. H/she monitors the psychosocial and medical follow up of all cases especially those with challenges for compliance to treatment or needing special attention. H/she closely monitors patients who are hospitalized and reviews their progress regularly, advocates for needed visitation by PSW and family and community and ensure that the Psychiatrist and Psychosocial Worker are working with the patient, family, and community to plan for discharge in advance.

4) COOPERATION BETWEEN PARTNERS

• Participates in cooperation between PSTIC and governmental and NGO health and mental health partners.

5) SUPERVISION (Paid by Caritas)

• Responsible for the regular supervision of the PSTIC Clinic Doctors and Psychosocial Supervisors in all locations in their clinic work and their PSW Team work at least 1x a month in person individually, weekly in a group and more as needed.
• Responsible for the regular support to Psychosocial Team Leaders as needed during team meetings and for emergencies and other issues.

6) PROGRAM MANAGEMENT 

• Participate actively in PSTIC Senior Management Team meetings and decisions
• Fulfill responsibilities for the daily – monthly – quarterly – annual reporting of all mental health activities

 PSTIC offers a range of training courses and workshops and through its professional supervision oversees mental health and psychosocial support services provided to refugees and asylum seekers. Referrals of people in need come to PSTIC affiliated PSWs from their Communities; UNHCR; NGOs CBOs; or self-referral.
