Job Description

Main purpose:

  • The surgeons work predominately in conflict settings providing care to communities without access to functioning health care systems. Basic diagnostic equipment and facilities needed to run an operating room will be limited: there may not even be an X-ray machine. Responsibilities include general surgery, surgical-needs assessment, and training of staff.

Accountabilities:

  • Supervising and coordinating surgeries.
  • Ensuring the quality of surgical service in emergency room, out-patient clinic, operating theater, in-patient department and dressing room.
  • Providing surgical care to patients by working in strong collaboration with the team (anesthesiologists, OT-nurses, ward nurses and others) and by training the personnel in the operating room and in the surgical ward.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Completed residency in surgery with valid degree and current license
  • Independent surgical practice after residency is desirable
  • Current or recent experience is desirable
  • Experience working in war surgery context is desirable

Other requirements:

  • Ability to live and work as a team,
  • Ability to manage stress,
  • Availability: MSF requires a minimum of a 2 years commitment.
