  • Proteinea is a platform for insect-based biotechnology integrating biology with engineering and molecular sciences to accelerate building with biology. We are leading the reinvention of the new insect biotechnology industry with insects that mass-produced.  
  • You will be working on something you have probably never done before.
  • We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our ProWired team as an automation engineer. Using your experience, you will ensure that our new processes are standardized and our R&D objectives are achieved in a timely manner in alignment with the company goals.  
  • You will work with a cross-disciplinary team of biologists and chemists, as well as colleagues with backgrounds in computational biology and software, AI, and aerospace engineering.
  • Beyond the technical qualifications, you must be highly goal-oriented, inquisitive, organized, independent, collaborative, willing to learn new techniques and concepts, and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing automated experimental workflows for genetic engineering processes, strain cultivation, sample preparation, and multi-omics analysis
  • Writing software to drive operation of laboratory instruments and robotics
  • Validating and QC'ing automated protocols
  • Writing software for data acquisition, retrieval, and processing
  • Collaborating with biologists on automation equipment operation
  • Training automation users on workflows and best practices
  • Supporting and maintaining automation hardware
  • Designing and building integrated automation infrastructure, including work cells for executing high-throughput processes, as well as flexible distributed automation tooling

Job Requirements

  • BS or MS in engineering or equivalent
  • Software development capability, especially pertaining to hardware control
  • Experience in hardware development, integration, and testing
     

Preferred

  • Practical knowledge of high-throughput biological processes
  • Experience with laboratory automation systems and experimental workflow development
  • Familiarity with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and Building Automation Systems
  • Experience with writing software test plans, user requirements, and system design documents
