Job Description

Position Summary:
We require a bright, highly motivated, technically talented and result-oriented individual. Working under the supervision of the Presales Manager, the Presales Engineer’s main role is to support the customers with their technical requirements, and to develop as a solution specialist to be a Technical reference for chosen products.
The candidate will liaise with customer technical teams to analyze requirements, design the appropriate solution(s) and present a range of options to satisfy the customers’ project requirements. The solutions presented will primarily be from the product profile of the vendors Xceltra represents in the region or as otherwise directed by the Presales Manager maybe from newly researched vendors. The candidate will provide support and information to the Marketing team for the preparation of IDC marketing material.
The job holder must build a high level of knowledge about the products promoted by the company. While training will be provided on the specific products, it is expected that the candidate will have a good standing in telecommunications and industrial automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and keep up to date a thorough understanding of contemporary IDC technologies applicable to the MEA region.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge base of the range of products promoted by the company and those of the competitors.
  • Develop the relevant knowledge, techniques and skills required by attending training and through flexible means like reading product literature and web training.
  • Provide technical consultancy to company clients during presales enquiries and after sale support.
  • Conduct internal sales activities such as preparing quotations and updating sales tools and systems with relevant information.
  • Accompany sales team members on client visits.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to company clients and be ready to answer questions raised.
  • Act as the technical reference for the marketing and sales teams in the company and answer – or be able to fetch answers for – all technical questions raised internally to help their marketing and sales campaigns.
  • Monitor and report on market and competitor activities. Proactively advise the company management – through Presales manager – on future technology trends and recommend plans to improve company position as a market leader in IDC technologies in the region.
  • Develop and keep up to date short term plans detailing the practical steps towards achieving above goals, and produce regular reports on the progress against these plans and discuss with the line manager.
  • The client base to be covered by this role is scattered across the MEA region and some travel maybe required.

Job Requirements

Essential knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or Electronics Engineering.
  • 3-5 years hands on technical experience in Data Communications or Telecom presales or technical support role.
  • Knowledge of the Data communication products like Ethernet switches, routers, modems, serial converters and wireless devices.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. High command of written and spoken English is a must.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to learn new products and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow company processes and systems.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.

Preferable knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Demonstration of high academic achievement is desirable (first class or second upper grade).
  • Knowledge of the Industrial Automation sector, customers and projects; and of the Communications technologies used for SCADA systems.
  • Experience with known global system integrators in the automation sector.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the SOLUTION sales process.
  • Competitive drive and determination with strong customer focus.
  • Good follow up and reporting skills.
  • Good judgment and decision making skills.
  • A clear passion to win attitude.
