Job Description

  • A structural CAD Drafter is responsible for creating engineering drawings on CAD and 3D using AutoCAD Revit.
  • A structural CAD draftsman is responsible for preparing architectural designs.
  • A structural CAD drafter performs AutoCAD drafting of architectural, structural, electrical and mechanical as well as as-build drawings and red line drawings.
  • A structural CAD drafter generates shop drawings and fabrications drawings.
  • A structural CAD drafter is responsible for creating, maintaining and updating drawings to ensure timely manufacture of products.
  • Drafters complete the design by finishing all details and adding or deleting necessary components.
  • They may serve as a liaison between engineers and construction workers on certain projects.
  • Individuals in this profession may specialize in commercial or residential structures, or they may specialize in specific materials such as steel or concrete.

Job Requirements

  • A structural CAD drafter should be able to prepare and document issue paperwork.
  • A structural CAD drafter should possess a diploma or a bachelor’s degree in architecture and drafting technology and should be proficient with CAD, Microsoft Software, Adobe PDF and Photoshop.
  • A structural CAD drafter should be apt with the utilization of MX and Microstation.
  • Should have strong communicational and organizational skills with experience in design or manufacturing environment.
  • Structural drafters must have strong organizational and time-management skills as they are often working on a deadline.
  • Must also be good communicators and work well with others; the majority of the work is team-oriented.
  • Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail is essential because all drafting work is extremely precise.
  • Structural drafters are typically required to have at least an associate degree in drafting technology, engineering design or a related field.
  • A number of technical schools and community colleges offer these degree programs, which typically take two years to complete. Topics covered in these programs may include advanced structural drawing, building codes and structural technology. Additional subjects may include computer - aided drafting, blueprint reading and advanced mathematics.
  • A CAD drafter should have the ability to read and interpret architectural drawings.
