Job Description
Purpose
The Bus Monitor works with the driver to ensure the health and safety of all passengers, including the loading and unloading of students, monitoring the safety of students and other passengers, and in addressing student behavior on the bus.
Responsibilities
- Maintain proper behavior on school transportation through close monitoring and assisting of students and other passengers on the bus
- Keep all required student information, records, and ensuring proper routes are followed and updated
- Assure the proper use of seat belts, harnesses, and wheelchair clamps of all passengers
- Assist with safe loading and unloading of students and coordinate seating of Early Years students as required by State Transportation Guidelines
- Communicate with teaching assistants, teachers, school doctor, heads of division, and parents concerning student background, medical issues and behavior as appropriate
- Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Assist disabled children on and off the bus and to personally escort children across and street upon return home, lift children as needed, and assure a responsible adult meets students leaving the bus
- Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned
- Perform other admin duties as assigned on campus during the school day
- Be punctual and to maintain excellent attendance
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor Degree is required
- Minimum of three (3) years
- Must have experience working with children, preferably within a school
- Special needs experience is a plus
- Must have a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of the children we serve and believe that all students deserve a high-quality education
- Ability to operate office machinery and use Microsoft Word and Google Products
