Job Description

Writing, Editing, Designing and fundraising.

  • Produce a range of high-quality content for Brooke Egypt; including information for website, internal newsletter and regular bulletins; photos; creating stories out of case studies; details of forthcoming events and other materials as required.
  • Produce high-quality content for external audiences and contribute to communication activities, such content must be cleared by its own supervisors before sent out to any entity external to Brooke Egypt. Such content includes field stories (in words & pictures), reports, media briefings, press release, photos, PR materials including promotional material (brochures and other prints), solicitations and factual information sheets including funded project.
  • Motivate and inspire good storytellers within Brooke Egypt rewards, provide guidance and support to team members, and support new initiatives
  • Arrange or contribute to the translation of the produced content and obtain approvals of the own supervisors on such translations.

Maintaining online communication and media database    

  • Participate in maintaining Brooke Egypt database and website content and ensuring the continuing development and accurate integration of up-to-date data in the database and website, as well as participating in the translation of such information.
  • Contribute to improving the public visibility of Brooke Egypt and its publications.
  • Be the main communicator on the social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter). Secure immediate following up of online postings/complaints. Secure appropriate response by vets in case of postings by the public about injured equines. Due to the specialist nature of the work of Brooke-Egypt, replies need to be deliberated with a specialist staff member prior to posting.

Media relations   

  • Maintain a database of journalists and media organizations in order to develop a network of media contact for Brooke Egypt.
  • Contact relevant media and individual journalists, timely reacting to media enquiries and organizing interviews with spokespeople for Brooke Egypt.
  • Screen Brooke Egypt's presence in the media, preparing regular press review for staff, management and Board of directors of Brooke Egypt.

Meetings and events   

  • Contribute to the organisation of conference and events- including visits from other countries, donors, Brooke worldwide staff, trustees, regional and foreign media. Ensuring the production of itineraries and travel arrangement in Brooke Egypt.
  • Plan for and drive Brooke Egypt events’ calendar and participate in local and regional media relations and events, public outreach and awareness initiative in accordance with the media communication operational plan of Brooke Egypt.
  • Preparing presentations for meetings, workshops and the media in a clear and correct language that is adapted to local context and the socio-cultural background of Egypt.

Others 

  • Handling complaints and comments from supporters and the media, preparing timely responses with factual evidence and obtaining supervisors’ approval on such responses.
  • Following up queries from third parties (like Brooke-NL) and deliver a timely response.
  • Create an attractive & comprehensive institutional advertising kits addressing Brooke Egypt strategy and awareness raising activities.
  • Participating in preparing the communication budget planning, phasing, forecasting and monitoring to support the communication strategy of Brooke Egypt.
  • Complying with Brooke Egypt policies, procedures and guidelines, including those related to Health & Safety, and confidentiality of information, safe guarding, data protection and record keeping; ensuring that no information is released to any party external to Brooke Egypt without prior approval of the CO supervisors.
  • Keep a close eye on the fundraising and communication activities of “friendly competitors” in Egypt and keep the supervisor updated on their activities.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as may be required from time to time by direct supervisor.
  • The CO is expected to work outside of core hours from time to time (especially in view of social media), to support meetings and the CO is expected to travel locally and abroad as required.

Job Requirements

  • Education: University degree in Journalism, Mass communication, Political science or related field
  • Experience: minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in media relations, public information, journalism or relevant communication role.
  • Strong writing, editing, interviewing and proofreading skills both in Arabic and English: adept at writing clean, engaging copy under deadline pressure and respond quickly to a multitude of tasks.
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and manage working relationships diplomatically; discretion and creatively.
  • Good networking and partnership skills; ability to establish good working relationship with regional, national and local authorities.
  • Proficient in MS office, content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Good knowledge of desktop publishing software (InDesign/ Photoshop).
  • Initiative, Creative and able to priorities and plan effectively
  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English are essential.
