Job Description

Job Summary:

  • Contribute to teaching and learning in the field of Interior Architecture & Design preferable with specialty in Tech - Structure & Materials & finishing and excellent knowledge of Architectural Graphics
  • Support the Interior Architecture & Design delivery across our provision more broadly as appropriate.
  • All role holders will have a growing reputation in a combination of teaching and/or scholarship and/or research and/or enterprise, a good understanding of resource management and administration in their own area. Typically, roles will incorporate at least two areas of focus. Role holders will contribute to income generation and the continual enhancement of the activity, knowledge and values required for internationalizing HE.
  • In future this role will be expected to engage actively in research/scholarly activity as appropriate and income generation with a particular focus on area of expertise.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Take responsibility for development, preparation and delivery of teaching, learning and assessment both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including module leadership where appropriate.
  2. Contribute to the development, organization and management of the curriculum to include international and intercultural experiences.
  3. Demonstrate good practice in teaching, learning and assessment through the use of a wide range of learning resources and appropriate pedagogic practice.
  4. Deliver teaching that is informed by contemporary research in the relevant field and develops the ability of students to engage in debate, critical discourse and rational thinking.
  5. Contribute to the wider student experience through, for example, personal tutoring, participation in recruitment, involvement in employability initiatives.
  6. Reflect critically on your own teaching practice, implement improvements, and engage actively with quality monitoring and enhancement processes.
  7. Assist with development of external partnerships in Egypt and/or overseas and development of relationships with professional organizations and agencies where appropriate.
  8. Work effectively as a team member, contributing to committees and working groups, and where appropriate supervising or mentoring other members of staff.
  9. Undertake professional development in support of both teaching and applied research.

In future/at a later date to undertake research through, as appropriate: ( no need to include since you are not a university that supports research ! - it is a teaching university and not a research based one

  1. contributing actively to applied research groups or communities of practice internally and/or externally
  2. working on externally funded projects or contracts
  3. assisting with bid-writing or tendering for external funding
  4. disseminating research outputs using a range of media: for example, academic publications, external reports, conference presentations, short courses for knowledge transfer, exhibitions, performances
  5. developing external networks nationally and/or internationally
  6. supervising research students.

AND such other duties as are within the scope of the spirit of the job purpose, the title of the post and its grading.

Supervision Received: reporting to Head of School/ Program leaders / Assistant Professor.
Deans and Associate Deans of Faculty
Supervision Given: Assistant Lecturers, Instructors, Research Associates as appropriate.

Job Requirements

Education/Qualifications:

  1. PhD or equivalent (where equivalence is having evidence of a submitted thesis by the closing date for applications and award within Probation) Or (if from Professional practice background) a good Honors Degree and (and/or Masters degree) and appropriate professional qualifications and/or membership and/or equivalent professional qualifications that might be considered as equivalent to a PhD.
  2. Detailed understanding and knowledge of academic theory and/or practice in a relevant subject/discipline.

Teaching Experience:

  1. Some teaching experience at higher education level with evidence of successful student learning outcomes in Interior Architecture & Design (Specializations: Tech-Structure-Architectural Graphics) 
  2. Including the ability to teach appropriate digital tools Or (If from Professional practice background) evidence of high quality presentation skills, and evidence of coaching, or mentoring and teaching other professionals
  3. Willingness to undertake a teaching qualification (if not already qualified)

Research/Scholarly Activity:

A growing research profile in Interior Architecture & Design

Active researcher supported by evidence of publications or other appropriate output ( I am conservative about bringing people with high research profile and ending up not offering them any support for research or development so we need to be careful about that please Or (If from Professional practice background) experience of professional practice/consultancy work including evidence of effective application of solutions to business/practice problems, with associated reports or other outputs.

  7. Ability to develop and maintain successful external and internal networks to seed relationships for future business collaborations
  8. Ability to contribute to the development and delivery of transnational education partnerships and international commercial projects
  9. An appreciation of other cultures; the global reach of the University and its International agenda
  10. Knows how to use; Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe suite, Sketchup + Vray, Lumion, Enscape, Autodesk Sketchbook, Fusion + slicer for fusion, Rhino , grasshopper and has excellent fabrication skills

Interpersonal Skills:

  1. Effective English oral and written communication skills in both individual and group situations
  2. Ability to lead, and work as a member of, a team or group
  3. Ability to relate to students with diverse backgrounds, ages and experience
  4. Ability to relate to a range of external clients and partners of the university from the private/public/voluntary sectors.

Other Requirements:

  1. Willingness to undertake academic activities in the evening when necessary, and participate in occasional weekend activities such as recruitment days
  2. A willingness to travel local, nationally and internationally as required to undertake academic and related activities
  3. Ability to contribute to the development of the curriculum to include international and intercultural experiences
